MOvember is fund /awareness raising gimmick where you grow a moustche for month of november. its to raise awareness of mens health issues.....my son in law does it...
a friend of mind used to have a christmas party called the Mustacio-Bashio, where the male member of the arriving party had to have a mustache or beard to gain entrance.
From when I could grow one, 17, till now.... there were only two times I had it off.... senior prom and when I did a few weeks on an ambulance for my EMT cert. in Cali.
although up untill last year it was just a goat although one that got as long as darin's beard at some points. Strangely enough all the eastern European girls when I was in prague for a few weeks partying loved it.

It's really just growing a moustache - can't connect with side burns or be a goatee along with some other rules (although they don't have people enforcing them...as far as I know ).
I don't necessarily see it as a gimmick (depends on how you define the word). In addition to raising awarenes, it's also used as a way to help fund prostate and other men's cancer initiatives.
With men dying from prostate cancer on both sides of my family due to lack of knowledge and awareness, I will be participating in it this year and trying to recruit others to do the same.
you are so very correct. gimmick wasn't the proper word and you have expressed all that i wanted to say but was too lazy/tired to get my mind right...I too have a hereditary predispostion for the cancer of the nether regions....but i already have a beard...do you have a team name?
ours was " not your mommas moustache"

No worries, I understood what you meant. Since there are a couple of ways you can define the word, I just wanted to clarify to others that it's just a quirky/offbeat way to direct attention to a serious issue that many men sometimes disregard.
No idea on team name yet. I hope to register sometime this month and will let you know.
