Bumping this thread to the top to see if it generates any more interest. I'm still interested to see if any Cruiser specialist mechanics have turned up in the area, or if anyone wants to get together. Spring is (sort of) here.

I'm always game for socializing over a beer and talking trucks. Perhaps at craft brewery inside 128 with decent parking? Nightshift, Lord Hobo brewhouse, Downeast Cider... Sundays tend to work for me than Saturdays

I'm down for some NightShift! Agreed Sunday afternoons might be best...

I Like the destination. Keep me posted...

Night Shift sounds like an easy place to make happen. If I remember correctly, parking might be an issue but that'd be an easy thing to call and ask about.

There is also this in a couple of weeks:
Spring Northeast meet up? - Expedition Portal

Rain-date: Sunday May 7th

Trail Opportunities: TBA???

Not sure who else will make the two hour trek, but I probably will, so let me know if any other Boston area people are interested.

I'm planning to make the Quabbin meetup.

@cboyd sounds good, you probably won't, but let me know if you go there via Boston.

I'm not sure I can make it all the way out to Quabbin, but I'd be up for a Sun. afternoon trip to Night Shift or the like. Anyone else?

It's my sons confirmation this weekend so a no-go for me. On a separate note does anyone have any good mechanic recommendations in the Boston area? I'm looking to get my steeringbox/lincages changed out. Since I'm not a welder I'm in need of some assistance.

This weekend is busy for me as well, but maybe if we get enough initial interest we can get a date in the books for later on.

While I can't say I have any personal experience with either of these shops, I've heard good things about Vinnie's Auto Sport in Somerville, as well as Abdon Auto Repair in Quincy. The latter was recommended by a friend with a V8 4Runner and the guy had plenty of experience with the 2UZ-FE and most Toyota trucks. The former has actually been mentioned here a couple times if I remember correctly.

Since I'll be at the quabbin on Sat, another weekend would be good for me as well. As far as shops, I've had the previously mentioned Volsar in Medford do my heater hose Ts, and I liked their work. They will be putting a dual battery in for me soon. Fwiw the owner, Gus, has an FJ Cruiser.

I just realized this little group existed. I live in Andover and work at Tufts in Somerville. I have an '04 LX470 as my DD and starting a 60/62 fund for a near future purchase. I'm down to grab lunch/drink in the Somerville area if anyone's around.

Any days work better for others? I'd probably vote for an early afternoon Sunday/Sat type of deal depending on location.

Same for me, as long as I'm in town, early afternoon Saturdays or Sundays is fine...

Check out Wexford Steet Automotive in Needham. I just met the owner/operator Will. Long time mechanic/foreman, but recently opened his own place.

He's honest, easy to work with, does great work at good prices, and he's prompt!

Also, how does one join the YT group? I'm two years old to Boston, one year young to LCs. So far, the online community here has been immensely helpful; want to get involved further.

I've found locally most people either won't touch my FJ or are willing to do it but say "I can't give you a quote I'll figure it out as I go". This last piece I appreciate at least for their honesty. Looking at my options I decided to do the work myself. In the 4 months I've had My FJ I've repacked my birfields (they where leaking) , rebuild the parking break (it was non-functional), redid some electrical work (horn didn't work, neither did wiper, new LED lights), Put on new disk breaks (was pulling left and when I repacked the birfs I noticed the calipers were shot on both sides). Mind you I have never even changed my oil prior to 5 months ago but with the help of this Forum, Youtube, Interwebs, and field manuals you can do a lot yourself. Oh also my radiator was filled with just water. In putting it coolant the radiator petcock cracked so I had to put in a new one...in doing that I realized that there was no thermostat. So I put one in, replaced all the hoses ETC. I've found that it's kinda like an old house. you go into do something and discover there is some other thing you need to deal with. but it's all part of the fun and doable with a wrench.

Welcome to Boston, where in town are you? I only see a handful of LC's in the city here.
