Hello, I have a electrical problem.

When my cruiser is running without moving my "charge lamp relay" make some little noise and the "Charge" light go on , then off (intermittent) and in the same time I hear the noise... a kind of "trii - trii " (!).

The "charge lamp relay" the little black box under the "timer pre - heating " gray box.(panel on driver side)

This strange sound and charge light stop when I push the gas pedal or turn on the bulbs lights... or put the wipper... (using electricity)

This problem don't seem to creat overall problem but I want to know how to fix it by a other way from purchase a new one.

Thank

Relays can usually only make one sounds which is the Click of it turning on and off. If you are getting a different noise, and it is definately coming from that relay, then it has to be either too much power burning the contacts which you would notice with a very hot and melted relay and wires, or dirty and corroded contacts in the relay. If your charging system is doing something funny, the amount of voltage coming into the relay from the trigger system may not be enough to fully close the relay, which creates the arcing noise the relay is making.

It sounds like just replacing the relay may not fix the problem, it could be something else. But you might try opening it to check the contacts. Thay generally pry open with a strong sharp blade.

cheers

I went to my alternator shop.

They check for the AMP : OK
They check the voltage : OK

I open it and clean the relay...

So... now I'm at the same point ! This is probably a electrical problem... but where ?? this is the question. Something somewhere make a shortcut.

What this relay are for ? Can I just remove it ?...

Anyway thank Sam.

More than likely the problem you are experiencing with your charge lamp relay is that it has a "cold joint" on the circuit board. Take the cover off and inspect the back side of the circuit board that the pins are soldered to. You may have to buff the solder up with a dry toothbrush and look real close with a magnifying glass if necessary, you will likely find that there is a hairline crack in the solder all the way around one of the pins. If that is the case use a fine point soldering iron and heat up that pin until the solder re flows and you will be good to go.
