hi, i hav a 1983 FJ60 and i saw a desmogging thread that got my attention, is this desmogging really worth it?? do you just need to remove the smog related stuff?? do you need to adjust the carb??? how much HP will it increase? BTW this truck is a truck that i use in a lonely desert town so theres no cops around to check on the smog or loudness of the truck, so ill take any tune up. thanks 4 reading.

Hey Danny, you ain't doing your homework. There are several threads that you will find in the search that will discuss this ad nauseum. Please do the search this forum (type in desmog). The bottom line is that the 2F engine is not a hot rod motor and never will be. Desmog or not, the mileage will suck. Advantages of desmog to me...(1) easier for me to understand (2) less to go wrong (3) less clutter in engine compartment which makes it easier to work on. My desmogs cost me about $500 (idler pulley, Jim C. carb rebuilds, Jim C. distributor recurve (optional), EGR welding, plugs, etc.

Here are two good recent threads on desmogs:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/188643-my-desmog-thread.html

Also you don't need to start a new thread and abandon your old thread here:

Welcome to MUD and you'll learn searching will be your best friend. There is a wealth of information here at your finger tips. Good Luck.
