If Jack is a '78, Where are the defrost vents
and how come there is a screw on oil cap?
I dont know.
His manufacture date is 12/78. His 78 owners manual makes no mention of the side defrosters and the owners manual illustration shows a threaded oil filler cap being removed.
Were the defrosters an option?

My 79 doesn't have side window defrosters. But I sure wish it did. I think it was an option or depended on the state of importation. Mine came in through the port of Jacksonville. Nice truck, I'd say for 3k you got a hell of deal. Congrats!
wow, can't believe how it cleaned up ... Red's the best (in my opinion) ... I have a Nov/77 build 78, and no vents ...

Yes, side defrosters were an option in 78.

I just bought a 78 last week and haven't had time to look at it yet. It is suppose to be a good weekend and I hope to check it out. You got a great deal in your 40.
My 12/78 has the vents and a push in oil cap I'm in Ohio but not sure of import location.
All is well though you got a dandy cruiser
