What the F does healthcare and medicare have to do with sale of Land Cruisers. You guys are playing roulette with the future existence of this thread.

I’m guessing if you get sick without insurance then You can’t drive your cruiser…

Too funny! I think this off topic discussion is proving that fj40 owners are an antiquated breed! 😂

Or …extremely diverse

Latest violent crime per capita DATA

Oh, and Florida guy, a Florida city is ranked higher then either Chicago (#92) or NY (#67) haha

View attachment 4011448

My point was that the comment that NY and Chicago are seemingly at the top of violent criminal places in this country is BS propaganda being pushed, and regurgitated

See the top 200 here for yourself

You have to sort the table provided to total per Capita column, descending order.

@Augustiron

So sorry, I obviously struck a nerve with you when I was 100% joking when I said that, and I thought that people would understand that I was jesting. But, lesson learned, anytime in the future that I put something on here as an attempt at humor, I will just for you and any like-minded others make sure to put a disclaimer ahead of it that it is meant as a joke, so that nobody gets their blood pressure up and has a stroke.

With that said, I've been around long enough to know that you cannot trust everything you read online, especially on Wikipedia. "IF" (and again, can't believe everything online) last year Chicago had 1,221,345 violent crimes, with 573 murders and they were ranked #92 then that is surprising.

But, personally I don't give a rip about the crime rate in Chicago or New York anyway. I care about the crime rate in my county, my neighborhood, I have City Police officers and Sheriff's deputies and firefighters as neighbors and if you forget and leave your garage door open with a peg board loaded with tools you will wake up the next morning and they will all still be there.

But again, when I said that about Chicago and New York I was joking and did not mean to offend anyone or get anyone's panties in a wad.

Per capita isn't a metric that I would necessarily use or be interested in.

You could rocket a small town of 10 people to the top just by murdering two people. (Tough to find a town with ten people in it, but just an example)

Two murders, but 20% fatality rate.

And our Sheriff (who has been re-elected 6 times) is awesome. When a criminal shot a K-9 and the K-9 Deputy, the other Deputies on sight and the SWAT team shot and killed the criminal. In the press conference afterwards a reporter asked the Sheriff "Sheriff, why was he shot 68 times?" the Sheriff quickly responded "Because we ran out of bullets!"

This is an interesting one under 10k

This just popped up yesterday

Too much misinformation in the video for me. An example is using the late (FJ60) carb insulator when all you need to do is replace one of the paper gaskets glued to the riser with an aftermarket version for a couple of dollars and keep the "collectable" original. It kind of makes my earlier point about enthusiasts rigs, etc. in that you need to know what you're doing with these things or you could end up off the rails as far as resale value is concerned.

The guy who started CCOT - or claimed he was the guy (McClug?) - told me he used to go around the country in farmer duds, kick the dirt, and lowball people for their old 40s sittin' out in their field. He'd then drag them back to the shop and "restore" them as a way of developing his body panel business. He couldn't wait to dump them into the market and be rid of them. The only 40s he was really interested in were the pristine low mile ones. Those were only sold to collectors with all sorts of caveats like "first right of refusal" and a yearly mileage limitation and a total mileage limitation of under 100K iirc. They rarely got any paint and only a little TLC on the inside. Those were the on ly ones he considered valuable.

Sounds about right…regarding McClung.

Landcruiser forum...

I can notice that although 40-Series prices do not go up anymore (in both the US and Europe), the opposite occurs with part prices, especially OEM parts!... :frown:

More and more I’m seeing two extremes. Those of us who have owned our 40(s) &/or other Landcruisers since before they were crazy expensive and new owners who have deep pockets.

I bought mine in Dec ‘91 for about $1000 USD. I put about $1000 a year into it on average till I had about $10k USD into it (and about 200ish hours labour into it). It has been a solid rig for many years. Fast forward 20 years and I probably have about $15k into it total. Now some of the sheet metal haven’t previously repaired needs some repair. I don’t have a metric crap-ton of money and enjoy fabrication, so it’ll take me a while, but my son and I are going to cut out and replace all the rusty areas in the remaining floor and fix it ourselves.

I just bought some solid front fenders from a guy who I feel is on the other end of the spectrum. Seems like a great guy, and I got along well with him. Just has much deeper pockets than I.

He bought a 40 off eBay… sight unseen for an undisclosed amount of money. He considered a jeep but then bought a 40. After driving it for a while he decided it wasn’t big enough to meet his needs when mountain biking. Having owned mine for almost 34 years, I can understand that.
So he is widening it and stretching it to fit on an 80 series frame and stretching it 10” more. He considered a new 2.8 Cummins but thought he could save a few bucks by buying a 1/2 cut with a Duramax, transmission, and transfer case for $8000. By the time he got the “new” engine he was into it for $14k. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s into it for $30-40-50k by the time he has built his 112” wheel base Landcruiser.

Now 40s aren’t for everyone. With a softening economy many owners are seeing prices fall and if they don’t wrench on it themselves, bills will keep coming. If they aren’t in it for the long haul, they cut their losses before it sinks them.
