JC Taylor, American Collector, Grundy and Safeco…I do have stated value coverage on all of my vehicles. Hagerty had monthly payment plan. Currently with American Collector I do not. My NJM regular insurance for our personal cars runs about 7 grand. My wife’s vehicle travels about 12 miles a week

I think quite a few hit the nail on the head. The right answer is, “the market isn’t willing to bear these prices.” I sometimes watch the Antiques Roadshow on PBS, where they’ll show a valuation of an item they did 10 years ago and what the value is today. Sometimes you see huge differences … as much as 70 to 80% less! How can this happen? The item didn’t change, what people are willing to pay did. Some people will end up getting great deals on these 40s, some sellers will end up way under water. Those of us who are lifelong 40 enthusiasts will likely see a dip in parts prices for a little while, but they’ll likely sky rocket again as current stock levels fall and manufacturers aren’t willing to produce any more. If I were a young person, I’d think twice about buying one right now. Fortunately, I am not a young person. I can wheel ‘til I die!

Something I learned about Medicare supplement coverage as well… I have Plan G. By law, plan g is the same plan whether I get it from company A, B or C…. The difference is that each of them charges a completely different price for the same thing. As good as car dealers

Exactly. And different prices for different zip codes, which I understand.

Ok … @jmdaniel that is something I don’t get. What is it about zip code that makes a price difference

I have to agree with you @kenjera …my Hagerty coverage for 3 vintage vehicles averaged about $ 700 for a few years until they hit me up for $1120 on a renewal…after shopping around my new company charged me $710 for the exact same coverage. My Homeowners coverage has been active for 48 years with the same company … come March…I’m going shopping again

I just got Medicare as of 10/1/2025. It's all foreign to me. I need to read the booklet. I think I have to find prescription coverage. I'm surprised they don't include that like other insurance does.

Oh, and Florida guy, a Florida city is ranked higher then either Chicago (#92) or NY (#67) haha

The rules are screwy and make no sense (run by the govt. - who could have seen that coming?).

Prescriptions are covered under Part D. Those plans are all over the place in both price and coverage, and notorious for not covering common drugs, so check and make sure whatever prescriptions you currently have are covered before you sign up.

I was told that you need to sign up with something, anything, for Part D to guarantee coverage later, even if you don’t need it now. They pretty much have to take you when you’re first eligible, but they don’t have to later.

Probably because if you live in Chicago or New York you are far more likely to get shot, stabbed and beaten.

Locations = “markets”, probably far ahead of “crime” is median (and range) age, income, population / job growth. And a strong second being terrain and culture supporting the vehicle type and people with good examples around to see and “increase demand”.

HELL YES! My hometown of Toledo, Ohio finally made it onto a list for something!

Also, I've lived in close proximity to downtown Denver for 20 years. Never felt unsafe anywhere in the metro area at any time of day or night. If us being #25 on the list is any indication, maybe the entire list seems scarier than it actually is.

Anyway, 40 prices ... There's some scrap yard looking parts trucks for sale near me right now and they all want $7-10k. It's laughable. You put some mountains nearby and suddenly anything with 6+ inches of ground clearance miraculously doubles in value.

Okay, here you go. And before anyone jumps in, I get diddly-squat for this info. Like @FloridaLife, I also got Medicare on 10/1/25. Unlike FloridaLife, I did the research ahead of time.

I subscribe to a blog called Retirement Manifesto, and earlier in the year, they hosted a webinar from a company called Chapter, on Medicare. Here is a link to the webinar:

They are having another this coming Monday, (6p Central), and here is the link to register:

I used Chapter to get set up, and they are fantastic.

Sorry to veer into semi political wastewater with my previous post but there is entirely too much thoughtless parroting of propaganda talking points that then get traction and spread as "truth". Even seemingly casual comments like the NY and Chicago one serve the agenda of spreading the misinformation and biases.

For the first time that ive noticed, there are no FJ40s listed on BaT

40’s are like wood boats and bulldogs, you have to really like them to have them. They are expensive and time consuming to own and maintain. I think it’s worth it but a lot of people don’t want a car at all because parking is a pain and a quick stop at jiffy lube for an oil change is too inconvenient. It’s definitely a different time. A lot of kids don’t even want a drivers license at all these days.

For those that are subscribers for SiriusXM satellite radio: Thursday on channel 110 Doctor Radio there is a 2 hour program at 12:00pm to 2:00pm called ‘Healthcare Connect with Andrew Rubin”… if you have any insurance questions on healthcare, this man has the answers. It does not matter which state you are in. He helps to solve billing issues, coverage issues and invoicing payment refusals. His staff is quick and he will provide details for you on some amazing quirks in insurance. If you have any questions…you really owe it to yourself to check it out.

I too get diddly-squat from this post…

Can’t read your earlier post past #26. Kinda pointless unless you’re one of the 26.

My point was that the comment that NY and Chicago are seemingly at the top of violent criminal places in this country is BS propaganda being pushed, and regurgitated

See the top 200 here for yourself

You have to sort the table provided to total per Capita column, descending order.
