Fantastic. So is the month and year correct? Sorry I missed the "A" on a VIN plate that's a bit hard to read. Good info though!

Date is right. All markets were included in the same numbering system. Nothing after FJ40~ is anything more that a serial. Model had the specific information all the vehicle.. That is except after 8/80 in the US. Those had extra digits added to the VIN to equal seventeen digits on 81+ models. The frame itself did not have the extra digits, just the two plaques had them.

Go to ToyoDIY.com and register. It's free; just need an email address and make up a password. They have never sent me anything via email so no worries about spam, etc. I have used it for years.

You can then look up your car by region, make, year, type, etc. or just put the VIN in. All the parts diagrams will magically appear.

Hardest part here in the US is the VIN. Most stuff I search for was never imported to the US so not searching for parts I have a VIN for.

According to CDan who was selling Toyota parts at the time it was 1979 when Toyota was upgrading the parts system is when Toyota made the decision to drop anything older than 3/69. Don't remember when Toyota made the decision to stop selling out of market parts but know it was after I joined Mud. Remember the TNK wiper motors were still available because they were pre 3/69 Toyota had to be convinced they were a part imported to the US. Some how the H55F managed to slip by. Heard a story how but just a story how it was done. US never had a H55F in a 40 series or 60 series. 70 series was never imported to the US for sale to the public.

Actually, the serial number is a line manufacturing number and in some cases (depending on the serial number) indicates destination market as well as whether the vehicle is a CKD or not.

Manufacturing month and day is also determined by serial number too.

That is interesting. Didn't realize this went back that far. Had a connection had a dealer who was able to get more information than I cared to know on a 99 4Runner I had. My FJ62 amount he was able to get was far less. So if I give you the VIN for my 68 FJ40 I bought back in 1974 you would be able to tell me the day of the month in 9/67 it was made?

Unless I'm mistaken thought the CDK had their own numbering system which is an automatic to know by how high there are and were not mixed in with complete vehicles?

would you agree that the 2F FJ40 was NOT Sold in CANADA till 2/76 for unknown reasons ?

this leaves a gap in time from 12/74 - till 2/76 wear the 2F fj40 MODLE ID Code FJ40L-KJK was NOT simply available ...

- then in 2/76-10/81 the FJ40LV-KCJK was only MODLE sold in the ALL ARCTIC Spec. region destination market

- Finally : BJ40LV-KCJK came along in 3/78-7/80

- then BJ42LV-KCJK 8/80--10/82

- BJ42LV-MCJK in 10/82-10/84 with H55F ........


- FJ45LP-KK 6/76-7/80

- and ...... FJ55LG-KK 2/76-7/80

As you can see, it should be hard top and those rearlights are only seen on -73 model? Confused...

Those tail lights started right around the start of 1969. Here is my 10/69 70 model.

9/72-9/73 (73 model) used a one year only reverse light. Shown in this picture.

Appears your probably didn't have the larger reverse light. May have been a North America reverse light. You do not have the red side marker light on side either. Which probably supports coming from a market other than North America. Picture of my 10/75 76 model. Easiest picture I have to find showing the light. These started 10/69, my 70 model has them.

You need a bigger garage or less cruisers. How can you drive them when you cant open the doors to get in them ?????
