That's on the plate but it's not mine. Looks like a Fj45 lwb. Was curious as I have never seen this model and axle, trim codeThat is what is on your plate? Do you have a pic of your rig?
Hey FJ-Gang, I have a similar VIN Number challenge shopping in the USA for a 1979 FJ40 that lives in Ecuador South America. The plan is to purchase hard to find parts in the USA for resto/mod project in Ecuador. After getting a few “Invalid VIN” from various parts suppliers (including Toyota), I resorted to sticking with the low hanging fruit (cosmetic parts) and avoid anything significant (related to drivetrain, steering, suspension, etc.) but even this is risky. I’d appreciate any help from the wisdom of the forum to get a handle on the year and month of my FJ40 - I don’t think I’ll ever be a 100% comfortable parts shopping in the USA since there is so much variability for in-country specific parts. My VIN Number is FJ40-273935 and Motor# 2F256154. My first hint that this might be a late-year truck came from the rounded corners of the grill. The US 1979 version has squared corners… then the fun followed trying to figure out what else is different. Thanks for any help you can lend..Unbolt / look under / scrape something to find the paint color![]()
Agree - after nearly half a century and several owners - a myriad of weird/odd stuff just keeps popping up. I have to remind myself that this is a “project”, not my day-to-day ride. For example, I have a light that’s always on, even when the vehicle is off and the key is out. There are several unfinished/unknown “fixes” under the hood that I need to investigate and extract without adding my own.. Fun!The seats are not original … missing the pads that go on top of the windshield rests …. Also has window rain deflectors and an extra step under the factory step … non-factory rims … chrome trimie thing around the front fenders also an aftermarket winch and a bull bar on top of the factory bumper… aftermarket shackles… aftermarket shocks… aftermarket hubs
A lot has changed … and that’s just what I can see in the one pic
