nothing this time :bounce:

there is a really bad off-camber spot on that trail that I said I wouldn't do - [I had almost run over my husband when I avoided flipping over there 4 years ago ]

but with all the rains we have had in Arizona this year, that particular spot had changed: steeper to climb but much less difficult to come down - so I did it despite my earlier reservations

it's a gorgeous area that does not see much traffic due to the level of difficulty and distance from town - it's an in-and-out trail, but in a good day you can see all the >60 miles back to Phoenix

ran this trail together with @richardlillard1 in his 80, Kyle in his 80, and Michael @ChaseTruck in the Blazer

Was that to make it easier to tow the Blazer?

Back when mine was 98% stock & rusty, I wheeled with a similar Blazer (with a rear LSD) & a late 70s Bronco. Neither could follow me up the toughest hill. The Blazer didn't have enough traction, and after watching the Bronco break it's rear diff trying, both gave up... :D

Tested the battery. It's an Optima Red Top, circa 4/02, pre sale. Tested out at 13.92v, 5.34mohms, 490CCA out of 800CCA, so it's ready to retire for a Sears Diehard Platinum (Odyssey). Not bad for 13 years on a Battery Tender.

Mine is nothing special. Just some scrap 2" .250 tubing and some pipe. It uses a cheap come along to adjust the boom angle and the winch to raise and lower the load. More pics on the link I posted above.

Well, we finally did install the winch line onto the 8274 that's on the '40... and connect the winch to the battery :)

The Blazer is not so stock anymore... :hillbilly:
I realize it wasn't clear... I was driving a stock 40... The Bronco and Blazer had only mild upgrades.

I was bored with no $$$ to spend so I pulled off the valve cover. Cleaned the hell out of it and gave it a paint job. I had did the same to the oil bath filter recently. Between the two they look slightly out of place in a 50 year old engine bay. Also replaced the old valve cover gasket while in there. That thing was a pain in the ass to get lined up and seated in the groove.

Oil and filter change
Air filter changed
Topped off power steering fluid
Filled the empty coolant reservoir
Looked into what stuff I'll need to change the gear oil in the diffs
Washed her
Learned exactly why FJ40s rust where they do whilst drying her off, inside and out.

And determined that I do indeed need to tear down the parking brake.

Not much but its still moving forward. Finished installing the TH350/Orion with Advanced adapters transfer case mount. Plumbed in the Oil cooler lines to the radiator. made a little transmission tunnel cover ans shifter boots since (Im by no means a master fabricator) the OEM wont accommodate the Lokar shifter & twin'd Orion.

I also drained the old putrid gasoline, flushed the fuel lines & filter. Added some new 91octane and got it fired up. Still having problems with it starving out or dying after a few seconds of running. But hey, still making progress.

There was a break in the heavy rain that we have been having this week so I pulled it out of the garage and went for a short drive.

This was the first stroll since re-plumbing the old vacuum advance dizzy to the d-40 carb. It ran well and seemed to gain a little pep. The advance had been capped off since I got the truck a little over a year ago.
