Waiting for the estimate or for insurance company to determine if it’s totaled. My nephew started fish tailing out of a curvy wet road and hit the side and turned over. Just glad him and the passenger are okay. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Hoping I can still drive it and repair, it will probably be considered a salvage title though.

I would check with @Aloha Jen and any other Oahu denizens for local parts and resources. Good luck!

Parts, especially large body parts are very hard to come by and shipping cost are crazy high on big body panel parts to ship from mainland. Let me know what you decide to do with it. If insurance decides to total it and they offer you to buy it back, I could be very interested in buying it off you for an Fj40 project we are working on. In my experience, they will most likely total it, but they might give you a really good insurance payout depending on your insurance company. Sucks you have to go through this, but feel free to PM me if we can help in any way.

Aloha Aloha Jen!
Really appreciate the response and advice. I’m still not sure what I’m going to do with my FJ40 and I definitely let you know. I just got the Damage Review from insurance this afternoon. I was surprised they didn’t total it and they have an estimate of $4700, but this estimate doesn’t seem right because it’s from someone on the mainland just going off pictures. There didn’t seem to be an estimate for straightening out the frame or any consideration for it. I’m hope to talk to them and go from there. Also, I did call several places on the island and no one seems to work on any older vehicles. They claim that the parts are hard to find. One place said they don’t work on any cars older than 20 years.

Correct, I don’t think you will find anyone on island that will work on old 40’s. Especially since most body panels arnt new and I don’t know of any body shops that will use used panels for an insurance job. And no one will mess with straightening out the frame, there is probably some liability.
That quote to fix seems very low, just paint and bodywork of the fixed fender and front clip to match would be a third of that cost, maybe more. Something seems a little off about that number. Then you have the new bumper, the bumper support brackets, and suspension damage (just to name a few) makes that number they gave you seem very low. Hopefully it works out and they give you an updated number.

Nicely done. I’m at a crossroads with my steering wheel.

The insurance company is hoping you cash the check and move on, the shop would need to file for a supplement to recover the rest of the monies. There's $4400.00 or more on the table!

One  Job.

Bought some genuine Indonesian knockoff mats for the front and rear. Rear mat = no assembly required. Running a full Aqualu tub so the front mats required a 10 minute nip and tuck. YMMV.

@Chungas Revenge firstly I love your mats…..

RANT
Before reading on…in old age I have become a cynical pain in the a$$….This is why floor mat companies are in business….our FJ40 floor covering is a part of the identity of of the vehicle. Those who have them from decades ago will protect them with other cover mats. I have mine from CityRacer because it just didn’t seem right on some level for me to have a plain rubber mat on the floor or Yosemite Sam six gun screaming “Back Off”

Here’s where they had me… now that I have this cool restoration looking floor mat at $450.00 I don’t want to eat it up so I spent another $100 to cover it up. My Silverado has Weather Tech mats as does my wife’s Suburban… another $400 pissed away. For WHAT? when we get rid of those vehicles some sleazy car dealer gets to tell the new prospective buyer “this car is a cream puff .. just look at how clean these carpets are..practically new”

By the way, I live with dirt roads, mud, sand, snow, and puddles. The Weather Tech mats look 20 years old today even though they are only 2. I only wear mud gripping and sand retaining shoes not the Bruno Mali smooth leather sole loafers that you wipe down after walking in rain,,,so it grinds the crap right in. Yet, my carpets look new 😂. Sumbitch

Where did you get these? Have a link?

eBay purchase. There are a couple dozen examples. Pays to sort through the different vendors. The DHL shipping is spendy.

Post rear axle swap. Finally completed a FF 70 series axle with a 80 series locker. I just need to finish the harness instal.
Like the groundhog, back in until spring.

Anything special when you did your rear axle swap besides weld in new spring perches? Who did you order new perches from?

Do you have a build thread for this truck? Love the 70 series wheel on the truck.
