Insurance companies have all the big buildings. They take your money and seldom give it back because then they wouldn't have all the big buildings.

I have gotten really lucky with vehicle insurance. When my wife and I rolled our 80 series, it was beyond saving , The axle was bent and the motor mounts broke because the frame tweaked and the dash frame work squished in so much you could not get the key out. I think one rim was not bent! but I payed 6400 for it, put new tires on it and the smaller ride hight ome springs. probably had 2000 in it and the insurance gave me 14,500 for it. to witch I bought a kzj78 for 16,000 then sold that one for 19,000, then I bought my fj40 for 8,000 i think. But thats the end of getting money out of vehicles as I have spent a ton on the 40 to get it the way I want. but I am happy. although.... I cold be tempted to trade for a good fj55 one day.

Started a major overhaul...pulled my transmission, engine. Sent the engine for machining and new performance cam. Mounting up new 5 speed h55 to the transfer case. I'm getting deep for a noob.

Slapped on new wheels/tires and removed the flipped bezel and cut some new bezel bushings (fuel line works great). Very surprised all 4 original bushings were in-place.

Also giggled at the translation of halogen lamps on the factory diagrams.

I was not at the accident and now the insurance company has the vehicle. Waiting on the damage review. I tried to go check it out, but the tow company hired by the state took it and they wouldn’t let me take pictures. It was a shady place. I guess I’m glad the insurance company now has it at their storage place. It’s been over 20 some years since I’ve dealt with insurance company.

Do you have it financed or own it outright? If outright, tell insurance you do not want to submit a claim. Get your vehicle back and buy a used fender and pay a body shop 500 bucks to straighten it. Fender is bolt on.

I own it out right. I thought of that but I’ve called several shops out here and still no one wants to even touch even if it’s just for straightening out the frame. I know it sounds ridiculous, but a couple shops told me they don’t deal with steel frames or they don’t want to deal with the liability. It’s been frustrating also, because the shops are also all booked up and it’s easy for them to say no for an older vehicle.

I was gonna vote chain it to a tree and pull the frame with a winch or another stout vehicle. I've gotten a few totaled vehicles back on the road that way and have even gotten the alignment and panel gaps to acceptable condition for a daily driver. This can be a pretty simple repair as long as you don't let perfection get in the way of "Good Enough".

Took it to a shop called Horsepower Farms in Benson, UT. Everything came out really easy, it had a lot of bad seals and leaks that actually helped keep the bolts underneath from corroding. Not a single broken bolt. We will see how it goes from here. I will start a thread when I get some time to document the build.

That's fantastic. Do you develop your sheet film in the trays too? I've only ever done 4x5 and that was in a holder.

Yes, in the tray. This is a blue X-ray film, I can use red light in a dark room.
