I’ve driven around countless days without doors. Most police officers don’t even know if side mirrors are required. I have never been pulled over for doors, mirrors, or lights. It helps if you treat the police well, and haven’t been pushing your luck.
If you piss them off, they will find a reason to ticket you. It helps that 40s are very rare here and many officers, and most of the adult population think it’s a cool old truck.

I got pulled over doing about 120 kph in a 80 zone (75 mph in a 50) at 5:30 am on my ‘99 BMW motorcycle. I chatted with the officer for a couple minutes and they let me off with a verbal warning… and asked me to slow down. Now if I was a dick about it, they could have nailed me for excessive speed and ruined my day. They aren’t the enemy, and often, treating them with respect goes a long ways.

I agree, they will treat you the way you treat them, most of the time!

My older restored alternator wasn't working so I took it to a shop that's specializes in alt rebuild. Had burnt DC diodes....etc ... It looked great when I took it in with the fairly new yellow cad plating etc... when I picked it up I'm like...WTH happened to my alternator!!? Old man said he couldn't let it go back out looking like it did! I paid him and left highly aggravated! Here's what he gave back to me.

I suspect you didn't get yours back. Replacing diodes isn't all that hard or equipment intensive. Prime reason I don't take my big game to the processors or anything I can fix myself to the shop. On the other hand does it work now?

It's the original for sure they just crapped all over it. I'm stripping it down now before I reinstall it. Not sure if the working part yet.

That rattle can paint job should come right off with some lacquer thinner, I hope.

Got my new radiator, union pipe, coolant, and shims for radiator and battery tray. Hopefully should have my fan shroud, radiator core support, splash shields painted this weekend and then I can install the new radiator. Already flushed the heater core, replaced the heater valve and changed coolant lines, thermostat, and water pump.
Toyota part numbers: March 1977 Fj40
Union pipe: 16577-61040
Radiator: 16400-49356

Didn’t do anything to the 40, but picked up this original tool kit off CL. Missing the grease gun and lug nut wrench, but a great find.

Do you know what year this tool roll would’ve come with? I have the same one but was told it wasn’t original to my 77. Mine has the grease gun but missing some other original tools i think.

@DylanH239 I think the large one is 70-72ish, need to deep dive into the threads.

The smaller canvas case you have is for later models 74-?

He should stick to rebuilding alternators... paint doesn't seem to be his thing that paint job is terrible.

After years of living with the aftermarket side mirrors, arms and gaskets, I finally replaced with factory set-up. Factory arm 87902-90301 for passenger side was still available from Toyota but drivers side was NLA. The mirrors 87901-90303 were available as well as the gasket 87911-90300.

I powder coated the drivers side arm using “Steel Silver” from Prismatic Powder. It is very close to factory.

I'm not ready to pay up for a dash pad but I wanted to cover up the flimsy dash pad sheet metal until then. I used leftover aluminum window trim from a recent window upgrade on my home to make a dash tray. It's made out of (5) pieces of angle. Gave it a coat of self etching primer then semi flat black. Covered the edges with edge trim rubber. It's not great but I think it's better than nothing.

The same people that painted my rig, painted the arms in silver and they have held up quite nicely!
