What yr 40 is it? It could be the drain for the cowl vent.

Steering column resfreshed. New turn signal assembly, horn button was toast. Also started reassembly of the clutch and brake pedal housing after powdercoat. New rubber on the feet via city racer.

Okay; don't be too hard on me. I'm a first time welder, so I know that I have a very long ways to go. I just got a little MIG unit this week and watched YouTube videos until I was cross eyed. Practiced running some beads and decided I would give it a go on trying to plug some 8mm holes in the rear fender wells.

I used this magnetic copper disc as a backer: Amazon product ASIN B000VHZHBO
Like I said, I need lots and lots of practice.

I had to do lots of this in the wheel arches where sombody bolted on an aftermarket roll bar. You can buy little discs for welding up holes too. I used the little metal discs for when i did it. they make them in some small sizes too. Just use a magnet and tack it in first. but your work looks like it will work too!

As my buddy once told me: 'I'm a lousy welder but a pretty good grinder!'

What yr 40 is it? It could be the drain for the cowl vent.

When the vent in the windshield away and moved to the cowl until 1/75 the two drains for the cowl vent came thru the firewall. 9/73 until 8/76 vent was welded shut because the heater had a vent on top. Non heater the vent still worked.

It's a 76 and i believe you are correct on cowl vent drain. Mystery solved I believe.

1/75 on drains went thru the transmission cover. 8/76 models with a factory installed heater the cowl vent was gone completely. Non heater models the drains went thru the transmission cover until the end of production for the working vent. If you look at some aftermarket tubs you'll find the drain holes even on the 1/79+ tubs that transmission hub was not a separate piece.

Still chasing some electrical gremlins. I was washing it after a trail this weekend and noticed the starter ground cable was pretty beat up and connection looked bad. Replaced the cable and cleaned the connections and I have both brake lights! (I had already removed the frame bolt in the pic).

For my '79 Vintage install I couldn't move the radiator back as far as the instructions said. I moved it about and inch. I had to notch my shroud like you did and cut the inside front lip off of my hood so it would close. My fan is still hitting the shroud I have to try and move the radiator a little so it will miss. The is no room at all for these issues. I also have to notch the radiator bracket to miss my power steering box.

That Mag Copper Disc is a great idea. I have to order one.

Speaking of welding skills, I found some rust in my seat pedestal, had to fix that.

Nice Pfaff…couple - three friends of mine were parachute riggers in their former lives. I’ve seen the Pfaff machine in action.

My shop was next door to the parachute rigger shop when I was deployed on USS Forrestal. The old chief was a cool dude. The Pfaff is a great machine but the bobbins are a pain in the ass, in my opinion. Typical German engineering.
