For my '79 Vintage install I couldn't move the radiator back as far as the instructions said. I moved it about and inch. I had to notch my shroud like you did and cut the inside front lip off of my hood so it would close. My fan is still hitting the shroud I have to try and move the radiator a little so it will miss. The is no room at all for these issues. I also have to notch the radiator bracket to miss my power steering box.
Bummer @fj40fillet. I did not have to move anything up front re the radiator support, and I might have got away with not notching the shroud. My cruiser's production date was July 1975

Replaced the cowl vent gasket, sanded and painted. Lubed everything up and actually works as it should.

In a nutshell, you’re going to have overheating issues if you don’t move your engine significantly forward. I’d recommend 3”+ based on my experience. If you position it right, the front and rear driveshafts will be the same length. If mine was about a 1/2” inch further back they would be the same length.

Starting at post 22 are pictures and measurements of my setup.
I kept my engine much lower than most. Had it been 3” from the firewall, I could swap my rear shaft that is starting to have play in the splines for the front and be set for another 30 years.
Pm’d you

This past weekend: Attended second car show. It really isn't much of a car show. There were no other Land Cruisers, just a CJ7. Won best of class.

Also, worked some more on the welding & grinding to plug some holes in the rear fender wells. Primed & painted but I still need to try to match the texture of the Herculiner. All and all for the first time MIG welding it will do.

Fiberglass top resealed, painted and back on with new weatherstripping. Now to align and install the new stainless hardware. Something tells me this part ain’t gonna be simple. Not tightening anything down till they are all in….

If your stainless steel fasteners don’t screw in easily, if they bind up at all, even a little bit, stop and find out why. If you need a wrench to put them in, they will bind up and your pooch will then be all the way screwed.

I have learned that it’s pretty easy to beat a Jeep at a car show.

Anti-seize your bolts. Stainless in mild steel requires it or you may never get them to remove

Got my Kline soft top installed a few days ago as we finished up a last little heat wave. Just in time for our 1st rain of the season yesterday! Finished up w the doors today, Not 100% water proof but it will make it way easier now w the ol tarp cover! Gotta get it in the garage soon is the goal, Then hopefully get it running.

Put a little bearing grease on each bolts threads.
Sound advice all, thanks! Luckily, with some alignment, all went in well. I did not use anti seize on all, but now you have me thinking I might want to go back in pull out the ones I didn’t.
