Getting caught up on some basic maintenance. I just ordered 4 new shock absorbers. I think this is the third set in 42 years. Also replacing rear brakes and muffler. Cleaning & degreasing the undercarriage, fluid check and chassis lube. All this because I bought new tires. More photos coming.

Wow, BBP all the way in Georgia!

I have been putting off removing the rear carpet and insulation a PO put down, dreading to see how much rust I was going to find. I am completely surprised at the condition of the tub and I believe the paint to be original! Definitely some surface rust but nothing major.

I used a plastic putty knife to get the majority of the insulation up. What would you guys recommend to use to get the adhesive up without damaging the paint?

A mild solvent like Goof-Off, naptha or even RUG will probably work.

Oven cleaner takes up everything and leaves original paint, provided you don't leave it on too long.

Depends what its stuck with. Be progressive. Start with mild solvents and work your way up.
White spirit? Gasoline?

same situation for me. This did the trick Amazon product ASIN B002MPPYYS

So, I used oven cleaner and it did the trick. Thanks for the advice @120mm

I did two rounds and let it sit about 5 min per, cleaned everything up and rinsed thoroughly. I think a towel and some Goof Off will get the rest off. Wheel wells are next.

Installed @SMG stainless front door hinge pins. (Great quality products) I'll have to touch up the paint. As it turns out, it is pretty tough to get the old pins and bushings out without marring the paint in the process. Next up, windshield, hood and barn door hinges.

So my 72 FJ has been sitting 10 + years. Its up on jacks stands. Drivers wheel rotates way to hard - in the process of removing the drum to see what's up PIA. Can't find my small wire wheel for the drill, so I guess it haul out the Dremel tool to de-rust the flange with some disk. Drum retaining screw came right out - yea anti seize compound

Passenger rear same issue - drum came right off - Bottom shoe has delaminated - no rivets only glue (poor quality IMHO). I'm going to glue the pad back on and perhaps install some rivets so I can move it around while waiting for parts

The Dremel tool with the 1/4 sanding drum with a worn out disk did a great job at cleaning off the corrosion/rust at the hub - drum popped right off.

Yea I looked at the current shoe offering's. No rivets; only glue. The failed shoe is like brand new as in very little wear. I did buy new drums and shoes plus break cylinders and hardly drove it much after that. And no the cylinder aren't leaking - the shoe is dry.
