Wouldn't be nice if all fuel leaks in the cab were an easy fix as a rubber plug?
And cleaned the contacts on top of the tank and guess what...my fuel gauge works now! Added 5+ gallons of gas...no leaks in a 20 mile test drive. No gas smell in the cab. Painted the tank cover and will reassemble. Very pleased with a couple of simple fixes!

Great job on that WS install. Do you happen to recall the P/N of the rubber gasket? Thanks.

This was on a 1973.

.I realized my 40 has had cut-lines via blue painters tape on my front PS fender since 2016…. I opted to get off my @ss and motivate today…

7 hrs of bending, cutting, converting, laying down metal boogers and then grinding…. Then repeat a few more times…

The fender has been ready for surgery for six years

Opted to get the curve right and deal with bending the lip later…. Bad move in hindsight

Bending the lip proved to be a real PITA

Really proud of the curve…. Too bad the rest of the fender is even worse than my work with the metal glue stick

Test fitted my rebuilt diff! Broke off one of the carrier retainer bolts and had to drill/easy-out, so disassembling the existing rear end while waiting for replacements. Lesson learned: Make sure the threads are chased and clean in the carrier caps BEFORE assembling the diff!

Another fun project finished up, aside from wiring it up and spooling the cable. Haven't decided on the cable type yet, synthetic or cable, any suggestions on the type of cable for a winch that will get light use would be appreciated from the pros on MUD. If anyone has a quick diagram of how you wire the 5 pin plug, battery and albright pack they could post up I would greatly appreciate it. Electrical is not my thing:)

That winch looks really good! Did you paint the brake parts are have them powder coated?

Just finished valve adjustment (Lord hope I did it right!)……. Small ‘rabbit-hole’ appeared and I had an ‘artsy-fartsy’ day! Cannot claim it came out as well as others but damn if I didn’t rub for hours….. painted the raised identifiers just because 🤣

Never know what Saturday nights bring.

So you worried about driving it with the hood latches undone and removed the front wheel verses just hooking the latches?

I do remember once many years ago on a fishing trip running out of liquid refreshments. We thought about driving into town for more but somehow wisely didn't. In the morning we realize and bunch of camping gear including a trolling motor were stack right behind the back of the vehicle. Could have been a costly error on our part. This was on a Saturday night as well when sometimes the best judgment isn't used.

A few weeks ago after driving up to the ski hill I found both hood latches were still released from the night before, luckily there wasn't any excitement.

Nope, just a basic knuckle rebuild!

And maybe an autolocker up front.

Bring that centering tool and stop on by...... Ima' train Fred how to rebuild Knuckles.

As I remember it was right the start of the 74 when the secondary safety latch was added. Thinking adding that feature to my 73. On my 68 hood which is not only heavy I glue thick duct liner to the under side. I forget once to hook the latches. At speed I noticed it bouncing. Pulled over and hooked the latches. For how would have to pop open would have probably hit hard enough fold the top into the windshield frame. My 73 obviously had that problem from a PO.

luckily since I purchases I have acquired a spare or tow 72-74 hoods.

I did learn something today kind of cruiser related. I was going to start a thread on the difference between the 1/79-9/82 theb40 series transmission hump and the 10/82+ transmission humps. Flipped the screen on my phone to get the pictures of how high the inspection cover is from the later style on a 82 tub. I couldn't figure out the background. Finally dawned on me when flipped it takes a mirrored image.

Makes it look like the transfer case shift lever is on the left side. Guess I will hold on that thread.
