@thecrazygreek I put my headliner out in the Sun, took wrinkles out nice before installing. Nothing beats our Arizona Sun!!!!

I finished up with the Aisan Carb for now; it should need tuning for altitude.

I thought that I was complete before, but I needed diaphragms for the AAP ('75 USA version), and secondary plunger, but then came along a donor with a better float bowl, one that didn't have a frozen accelerator pump ball that I could only repair by drilling from the bottom and punching it out of its seat. This one is probably better, more like how it came from the factory. In went the diaphragms, and some serious triple checking, as well as several hours of my weekend.

I was disoriented regarding what to do with the EGR inlet. So there went my afternoon trying to figure out something simple, that has been put-off for nine months. Where can I get a tapered plug and seal it from the inner diameter?- the p.o. used the handle of a file. Where can I get 16mm round stock to plug it using the original flex connector to the EGR? Can't I just find a cap at the auto store? What will hold up against the heat of the exhaust tubes in the engine bay? What will stand the fuel vapors of the intake and carb? After poking around many isles of the hardware store, I decided on an M10 socket cap screw, which has about a 16mm O.D. on its head. Then I tried the orange/red OEM EGR tube, but it was stretched and cracking and the external braiding wasn't helping much 40+ years later. I went to the auto store and bought 19/32" / 15mm Prestone-brand PCV tube. I placed the section over the Aisan barbed inlet, then used a hex key to push the screw's shoulder up to the end of the barbed EGR tube. I finished it off with Toyota clamps that are about 27mm in diameter. I hope this works, because this would be a silly thing to need to repair in some remote place.

By the way, the camera flash makes the carb look spectacular, no way could I do that with Scotch Brite and wire brushes.

52 degrees and rain is not conducive to a wrinkle free liner...
Maybe suspend my 500 watt shop light above it overnight... ?

On a side note, I began installing my new 8 inch powered subwoofer into my 78 under the drivers seat. Just needed to relocate the jack a few inches toward the drivers door.
Hoping it along with my kick vent speakers will get the 40 rocking... !!

DUI distributor and Live Wires installed. Starts great and idles nicely. Need to set timing better and clean everything up. Love that can run .050" plug gap.View attachment 1936751
I've read that you need to get a dented side cover off a 60 series 2F or literally "bash" in a dent on the side cover to have enough clearance to run the DUI. Did you have any clearance issues?

Jumping in... ‘78 FJ40... I had previously de-heatered, so the tube (along the side cover) was already gone. I had to remove a (heater tube) stud and orient (turn) the DUI, only slightly, to clear the side cover.

No bashing or swapping... no FJ40s were damaged during this exercise.

I did, however, feel it was necessary to use a different holddown.

pumped gas one summer, for a full service Phillips 66 station... biggest challenge was finding the gas filler in a ‘52 caddy.

Anyone know where it was/is?

Behind the tail light on the drivers side.
You didn't let me answer. I was just thinking the other day why nobody tries to hide the filler anymore. We had a car with a spring loaded license plate. Filler was behind.

Took delivery of the special run ARB bull bar. It's an awesome front bumper. Here it is and obligatory banana for scale
I started to mount the Warn 8274 but the fairlead will not sit far enough into it to line up the mounting holes. I think it's a die grinder job.
Unfortunately, the wife caught me and revectored me to garage cleaning .

Does that make it a one banana job?

Pulled the 40 out of hibernation and headed to Moab

I had a laundry list of stuff to do over the winter, but the powder was to good and the garage to cold. So it’s still in the same shape as last fall. Oh well.
No real wheeling to be had on this trip, but the 40 acted as the gopher on the trip. We did drive into Arches NP and out Willow Springs Rd.

The kid is still a bit sketched when the truck starts rocking around, so this was the extent of the four wheeling. Mountain biking was great though

We finished the trip on 18N Road in Fruita. Great trails and the cruiser was a site to be seen shuttling the bikes around and getting camp supplies.
Started a new list of things to work on...
