Anywhere one could learn more about this magic valve? 🙂

There is a surprising large number of threads on this topic...

Added wireless charging to my dash X mount! MOON chargers are the smallest and thinnest I could find, so it was a very low cost alternative to the RAM wireless charging mount.

A little gorilla glue and I made my own. I attached it to the existing USB input on the VAIS Bluetooth adapter on my 2008.

Do you have links to all the parts you used? I need to mount something for my phone.

This is way cool!

This week I learned the hard way about clock springs. I had to put mine back together and it is not a fun process. Posting this so others don’t make the same mistake as me.

I saw another person here suggest removing the steering wheel when threading a leather steering wheel cover. I remember doing a similar wheel wrap on my 100 series out in the sun and it took me hours over a few days with the thread getting caught on everything in the cabin. It was hell. So I thought what the heck, I’ll give it a shot and do it in the comfort of my AC this time and put it back on once finished.

The removal process is pretty straight forward:

1. Pop off square side panels on column, undo airbag torx 30 on each side
2. Remove airbag wires/plugs. Set airbag aside face up
3. Remove the 19mm center nut
4. Use a marker to line up splines for re-install
5. Remove steering wheel

Mine was really stuck on there, so I took a rubber mallet and tapped it around the wheel gently. When I pulled, the wheel it came off but so did a bunch of this white ribbon from behind it. Apparently, the clock spring had stuck to the back of the steering wheel and the front half came off with it upon removal.

I had the put this back together and rewind all the ribbons back inside. This process took hours to get right as the ribbons are different lengths and it’s very awkward to get it all to fit the way it’s supposed to. The next fun part was figuring out dead center of the spring once assembled and to match it with my steering wheel. Once centered it will turn almost 4 full turns in either direction.

The moral of the story is be more careful than I was.
ouch, I have had this experience before on a BMW, I ended up replacing the CS as I was never able to get it right

I used a knockoff variation of the RAM X Mount. Mine was like $15 from Amazon a few years back. Looks v similar to this one
Amazon product ASIN B087LSZZTK
My initial plan was to buy a motorcycle style phone mount. My idea was to hard wire it in and then use the little USB port on the side to drive the charging cable. I never ended up using that. I ended up with a cigarette lighter USB plug and ran the cable up from there. I ended up cutting off the wiring that came with the mount.

The wireless charger took some searching. I stumbled across this brand without knowing anything about them or how it would hold up over time. You can order on Amazon ($30-40) of from their website directly which was much much cheaper ($10) but the shipping took like 2 weeks.

- this is both a thinnest and smallest wireless charging disc I have been able to find. I was really looking for something that would fit with the phone mounted without it protruding out too much, or potentially falling off on the trail.

Because I have the VAIS Bluetooth adapter, it already had a USB port on the rear of the head unit.

Did Some test fits to make sure that it charged when in mounted position, and settled on an ideal placement. I scuffed up the X mount with sandpaper, wiped both surfaces with some alcohol pads to clean off dust and dirt. Added a little gorilla glue and secured in place. This Texas heat made sure that it cured pretty quickly!

I would advise verifying the rate that that thing can charge the phone at.

I recently installed an Apple mag-safe puck to charge and hold my phone while driving, and found that anything short of a high-amp usbc charger wouldn’t actually charge the phone. This was using a mag-safe phone case for the record.

Other types may not be as sensitive to power as mag-safe, but these do at least do a great job of locating the devices for optimal conditions to charge.

Replaced the clock spring on my ‘10 with 208k miles to fix the partially non-functioning horn.

Big week!

Upgraded my suspension (OME 2702/2722), added some Slee sliders/skids, and stepped up to 285/75r17 Toyo AT3’s this week. I have a little kdss rub at full lock turning right, will look at alignment and see if anything can be done there (@linuxgod has provided about 6months of reading material for me to review as well if alignment doesn’t fix).

As always, @cruiseroutfit knocked it out of the park, my wife is convinced I moved to SLC just to be close to their shop…

Suspension/wheel choices inspired largely by @mcgaskins latest build, wealth of knowledge on his build thread to copy/paste from, insanely helpful.

For those curious… before pic is factory front suspension, 2721 OME springs in rear with 285/70r17, this was a great setup, good amount of rake but handled towing duties and drawer weight brilliantly.

Installed RCV axles. Everything clears at droop and ride height throughout the steering range.

That size does fit…just. There’s about 1/16-1/8” clearance between the panhard and the spare. It also hangs down lower. It’s not the best angle but you get the idea:View attachment 3405271
Sweet! I’m looking at getting that size but was hesitant because there are posts saying you can’t get a 34” tire under there. Mine is 2015, if that makes any difference.
