Chinese snorkel and got the 315s mounted. For now, stock height.. I have a MAF 30mm spacer on front to make up for sag on the stock springs, and both rear rows of seats + spare gone, so the rear went up a bit too. Very slight rubbing on front bumper.. but that is just driving it around town. I haven't had a chance to twist it up yet. Going to copy the swingout-carrier-in-a-stock-bumper soon.

TJM progressive springs & caster bushings, Fox shocks, OME stabilizer all on the way.

I also fixed the left rear hub oil leak. Someone changed bearings in the past and didn't put enough preload on them. So the hub could flop around which let the axle seal leak, and this eventually started leaking past the hub seal into the emergency brake and onto the wheel.

Since the 97 hubs on the locked axles i bought were so rusted, I used the hubs and brake backing plates off my 94 axles. Turns out the bearings were original koyo with 285K miles.. and the inner bearings on both sides were perfect. That is quality.

Took the fam. and a friend + dog to a small lake up in the mountain, no off road unfortunately but good times nonetheless!
Forgot to turn the lights off but 3h later, had no problem starting the engine!! I bet I have to thank the CREE LEDs I had just installed for that ah!!

Note for later: Need to install an audible light warning indicator!!

So after my trip to Texas I felt this unusual wobble I thought it was the wonderful Texas mud. I cleaned everything. Checked all the nuts and bolts. It drove fine on my next trip. Today I took the lx for a quick drive and noticed the same wobble. However this time I think I found the problem. A busted steering stabilizer. I replaced the stock one with a doetsch unit 4 months ago but it looks like all the oil is on my garage floor. Any suggestions for a more heavy duty unit? I have about a 4 inch lift.

With bad loose bearing and no one around me has a spare set I went to Napa. Interestingly the Napa branded SKF bearings has made in Japan stamped on both the box and bearing. It also cost like the oem/koyo ones from cdan. Not a bad substitute for OEM and they open Sunday's. :)

As soon I finished putting the hubs back together and the number 1 bypass hose sprung a leak right I front of me. Very happy that I happened in my drive way and not on the side of the road in the heat!

Can you define "bad loose bearing"...

I have some experience with loosing a wheel bearing at 70 + MPH... So just curious if the lock nuts needed a re torque or if the bearing itself was bad.. If so how did you determine...

Lots of great info on here concerning new vs. old bearings...

Since you went the new route already you will want to check those more often as they will need to "seat" themselves in the races, did you swap those also?

I guess I just wanted to pose the question how did you know it was the bearings? And not the spindle, the races, in need of a repack, or re toqure ect...?

I'm extra "sensitive" when it comes to wheel bearings as you can tell :-)

I generally run the "check every time I run it" method these days running 37 PitBulls on HMMV's... But that's me.

Hit the Rubicon for lunch at Spider Lake. It was nice to get out in the 80 after three months of HG and other maintenance mayhem. I had the "pleasure" of helping out a nice fella who was doing his best in a stock heep.

For me it was easy, on the road it was starting to wonder a bit. I jacked up the front and did the 12-6 and 9-3 o'clock wiggle and there was play.

Opened her up and the both lock nut and preload nut was very loose. Tighten the preload nut and spun the hub and it was crunchy and that means bad bearings. The bearing comes with race so yes I changed it out and it's usually a good practice to change then at the same time.

Once the new outer bearing was installed and tighten down everything was smooth. So nothing else has issues.

Went to rubithon for the first time and had a great time! Need some 35's or bigger for next year, 33's had me dragging over everything. Made it through with hardly any real body damage, a few scrapes but other than that it was a clean run!

Went to my going away party out in the country. It has rained heavily here the last few days, so took my 80 out and gave my wife her first off road experience. Lots of sloppy mudholes, so messed up my fresh wash job. On our way home in the dark, almost slammed into a herd of Angus cows, calves and one bull at 40 mph on the soupy wet mud road. The cows instantly thought I was there to feed them, so they surrounded us and mooed. The bull decided my right headlight was challenging him, so he went into classic exhibiting behavior. Visions of a shattered pax head lamp flashed through my head, so I took a little detour through the ditch on the other side of the herd and was able to safely get by.

No pictures, as I was a bit busy trying to not crash into a herd of cows and avoid losing headlight to a bull with security issues.

Took two of the kids out to explore and collect griz bear fur samples. Road made me glad to have the 80. Need to get my winch installed if I keep doing this alone. Also need to get working on the HAM license. Once we left the main road did not see a soul.

When we got there missed the good trail and went up a game trail by mistake. 3 hrs and no progress so decided to walk back down the creek, finding the good trail as we got to the truck. :bang: Going back on Wednesday.

Got my sons bumper finished, despite 107 deg temps. Came out really great. I don't like the placement of the fuel can carrier, it's to low and is about 1 1/2" to far to the left. With fuel cans installed it blocks too much of the tail light, guess I'll be modifying the fuel carrier. On to the 4.88 gears and axle rebuilds. Crappy cell phone pics attached.

Oil and filter change. Resprayed my running boards with rhino liner.

If I get to it today, steering stabilizer hopefully on.
