I'm doing a front axle service and trying to separate my birfs from the inner axles. I need to clean and repack everything but I can't get them split...

I've tried the pvc pipe bang method, blew that out and switched to steel. It's not coming undone in two hits like all the videos I've seen. Working on a 91

Metal fence post with rags stuffed inside, concrete floor with cardboard on top, one good HEALTHY smack! It'll go...

Hummm...

I've always held the inner, had the birf on the ground. Line up a 2X4 on the ground with the end of the birf. A quick smack on the end of the 2X4 with a hammer and "POP"...

I'd lay everything on cardboard for the process to prevent any scratching. And make sure the inner and birf are parallel durning the process.

Got one! Smaller side is left and will not budge. Thanks for the alternative idea, don't know why I didn't think of it too.

Keep in mind that if you have a twisted inner axle it will be sometimes near impossible to remove the birf. This happened to me and I needed to get an all new inner axle shaft from CDAN to go with my new OEM birf...also from CDAN :meh:

Installed rear Air Lift bags, TMS snorkel, front O2, water pump, hoses, idler, a/c tensioner, belts, distributor o-ring. Phew. Camping tomorrow!

Went fishing with my son. One of our favorite "secret" spots was even more inaccessible for mere mortals.

It was deeper than it looked... :)

With bad loose bearing and no one around me has a spare set I went to Napa. Interestingly the Napa branded SKF bearings has made in Japan stamped on both the box and bearing. It also cost like the oem/koyo ones from cdan. Not a bad substitute for OEM and they open Sunday's. :)

As soon I finished putting the hubs back together and the number 1 bypass hose sprung a leak right I front of me. Very happy that I happened in my drive way and not on the side of the road in the heat!
