What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Where are you jacking from, just about any jack should work if you put it under the axle.
Even the OEM jack.
A 35” puts the axle only about 1.5” higher off the ground.
High lift jacks have there place but there very dangerous and only work on rigs with full armor.

I have used the OEM jack with a small block to remove my 39” tires
Does you rig still have the OEM jack ? I still carry mine.

In the shop a floor jack works perfectly under the axle.
I had read a few things- some here- not to do axle- so went a bit further back and did the frame to be double safe and took a lot of lift to get in my stands. So my 18”, 12 ton bottle should work fine on axle. I do have the factory jack, but will just keep the beefier one and use axle. Will sure make things easier. Thx.

They are dangerous if you don't read up on how to use them correctly. I strap the axle so it doesn't have to be lifted a mile off the ground, or I have used a bottle jack under the axle for the same effect, though I wouldn't do that again.
Why not bottle on axle ?

umm... if the axle housing can't handle a bottle jack under it, it can't handle anything...

cheers,
george.

To be clear the owners manual instructions say to jack under the axle 😉

The thing had a 12" handle. Lying under the truck while jacking is too sketchy. If it had a long handle, it'd be a lot different.
OEM jack has a long handle ;)

As long as the tire is still on your safe.

Use one of these good to go.

I don't even know if I have a factory jack.

Used our OEM bottle jack with LCP adapter 2x to change out 315s on 3" lift. Jacked up the rear at the axle housing. Placed an RV aquare jack pad on a loose gravel fire trail.

I'll find out when I pull the baskets for sale in a few months.
There’s enough room to pull the cover and remove the jack.

Perhaps, but I have a hi-lift, so I don't care. :)
So do I it’s in the Cruiser at all times. I have owned it for 50 years. I would only use it to change a tire as a last resort.

It's not an "attititude"... I hardly drive anymore, so I have no motivation whatsoever to go solve that puzzle when I have a solution in place, and the "problem" will resolve itself in due time.

Make sure you use a proper athletic stance on that hi lift jack for saftey. It is most important to keep your face and eyes directly inline with your shoulders, feet, hands, and the jack handle. Than when the jack handle kicks back you can catch it.

It's safer for me to use your face.

My son and I did Front brakes today -
Question … what is preferred jack to have in your 80 ? I had a 12 ton bottle jack and didn’t realize it was way short - and my son’s floor jack was too short, not worried about home- can get a big floor jack but what about on the road for something with 33-35” tires. I need in my truck now. This would have been a disaster with a flat. My recovery boards have a jack platform in the middle if that helps at all, but do I just need a 36” bottle jack or what is best ? I do not want to be stranded if I have a flat off road- this was a major oversight in my part

Hoping to get shocks on this week and oil pan gasket within next couple weeks.

If you have sliders or front/rear bumpers I would look into the ARB jack. It is expensive but as most say, buy once cry once. The ARB is a lot safer then your standard high lift jack.
