What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

You'll get to see lots of cool trucks. It's Toyotas of all kinds. Hopefully you'll get to see some of the vendors too.

Can't recall if I shared this with you before (sorry if I did), but one of the best gatherings happens in December. Also at the Gorge. We head there after work on Friday (some folks get there on Thursday and wheel all day Friday), have dinner with the group and wheel on Saturday. Small group... mostly 80s. I'd highly recommend it.
Sounds awesome. Any idea on dates ? We are going to Caymans in Dec, hope it doesn’t overlap. You should bring your rig to Cars and Coffee in Lex some Sat morning.

Last year it was December 9th. It's usually around that time.

Replaced the steering stabilizer with an OME. The bushing was done on the old one anyway and I had been thinking about this for a while.

@bryson noticed the clamp on tie rod end was in wrong place, so fixed that as well. Hopefully we are good there.

This whole talk about stabilizers got me going down a rabbit hole. I started pricing new ones and name brand King mainly is $300

I am not a serious off roader so opted for a $105 OME. It will be fine for my uses and is a big step up from what I had I think. My old one was worn out.

Yeah I agree with the whole off roading thing too. A gear head that is no longer with us Kevin AKA ToolsRUS told me he ran the rough country stabilizer because he knew it wouldn't last but could warranty it out and get a free one.

Older son worked at King for a couple of years. Got one of the protos free. Replaced the original stock Toyota one that had been on there for 25+ years. Couldn't honestly tell the difference. Looks pretty though :)

Now their shocks, yes, they made a difference...

cheers,
george.

I do not recall where I saw it but there is a way to add pressure. That might make a difference, I do recall it being $55 per the site.

He did set it up for me - he's an ME and was designing some of their stuff :)

Just like the shocks, he built them and used the 'good' internal bits (seals etc).

cheers,
george.

Got this pig back in, gotta a lot of work to do, waiting on harness clips and another $1500 in parts from the july 4th sales. Normally I have the intake all buttoned up but since this is a RHD it’s so open on the left side.

My son and I did Front brakes today -
Question … what is preferred jack to have in your 80 ? I had a 12 ton bottle jack and didn’t realize it was way short - and my son’s floor jack was too short, not worried about home- can get a big floor jack but what about on the road for something with 33-35” tires. I need in my truck now. This would have been a disaster with a flat. My recovery boards have a jack platform in the middle if that helps at all, but do I just need a 36” bottle jack or what is best ? I do not want to be stranded if I have a flat off road- this was a major oversight in my part

Hoping to get shocks on this week and oil pan gasket within next couple weeks.

Hi-Lift

Is that not dangerous about falling over that high just for a flat ? Totally ignorant here. Had just read that was best for getting out of ruts etc. but would be super happy if a high lift is the answer. Educate me.
They are dangerous if you don't read up on how to use them correctly. I strap the axle so it doesn't have to be lifted a mile off the ground, or I have used a bottle jack under the axle for the same effect, though I wouldn't do that again.

Where are you jacking from, just about any jack should work if you put it under the axle.
Even the OEM jack.
A 35” puts the axle only about 1.5” higher off the ground.
High lift jacks have there place but there very dangerous and only work on rigs with full armor.

I have used the OEM jack with a small block to remove my 39” tires
Does you rig still have the OEM jack ? I still carry mine.

In the shop a floor jack works perfectly under the axle.
