Where did your order your Mass-Backed carpet?

As far as buying factory replacement carpet, I thought it's NLA for my Oak/Brown color scheme...

I'm glad I saw your post. I was just about to order carpet from stockinteriors.com and upgrade to the "Ultra Plus Cut Pile" and they do have an option to add "Mass Backing" for $160 more.

The PO of my rig put some acoustic mat under the rear carpet area and doors. I'm going to bring that up to the front firewall and do the roof as well. I think the Mass Backing is probably overkill anyway if you've already applied some acoustic mat, but if it smells, then that would be a no-go for me for sure.
Ordered from Tupelo Honey originally. Only the front Oak carpet is still available for the front, Toyota Part # 58510-6A190-E0. It already has the insulating pads glued to the carpet. See post by @TNFZJ here: Time to install the new Carpet Assy, Floor, 58510-6A190-E0 - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/time-to-install-the-new-carpet-assy-floor-58510-6a190-e0.1371234/

New back and rear fenders ordered from Stock Interiors: 91-97 Toyota Land Cruiser Carpet Complete Kit; Color:8655-Sandstone Plush Cut Pile. It is a little more tan than stock.

After the experience with the mass backing I would never try again. Mildly expensive mistake.

Well hopefully they do not sound like a Corolla like the old ones did. Honestly I should have gone with the factory replacements that are like 400 500 mhz.
I pulled mine out of a LS500 a few years ago out of pick and pull. I think I paid $10 bucks. Plug and play and much better sound.

I'll jump in on this Turbo/ Supercharged /Ls swap convo. Have done a bunch of superchargers and ls swaps . To do either correctly your in the same ball park on money if you're doing an engine with the blower. Pros for the blower It's TRD meaning you can pull into any dealership for service. With 5 lb of boost your not opening up a can of worms and other problems Fuel , ignition etc. It's plug and play. For people who offroad more than Highway you don't need to spool up a supercharger that little extra HP is great and a game changer at times in the rocks. It's not big HP but makes the 80 very pleasureful to drive. It does drain a little HP from being belt driven. Cons .. It does require special parts if needed that are not readily available. You destroy a blower finding one might prove hard for something used. Took me 2 yrs to find a few so I have parts and to keep a rebuilt one in stock . $8500 for a new kit to replace a damaged blower is a tad steep. . I'm not on the turbo bandwagon yet. I'm not saying they are bad they are just new and to me not time proven (I consider 200,000 miles time proven). I have seen my fair share of 200k supercharged engines and the damage 5 lbs of boost does to them . Mostly seal issues from crankcase pressure caused by a flaw in the TRD engineering with the PCV. Hence why I spent 2 yrs developing a catch can system just for boosted FZFE engines. My biggest hang up on turbos is the manifold not being cast. Seen too many NON race cars have issues with tube style manifolds. Time will judge that. I have a beast Supercharged FZFE lots of boost, lots of forged parts from OZ. lots of money. We are on the 3rd tranny now. They seem to only last 1350 ft or so. They just don't hold up to Drag racing style launches with a the hp it has. Ruby... My money pit 80 when the tranny does hold up smokes most LS powered vehicles . But 5 k a pass wears you out fast. LS swap..... It just isn't a Toyota any longer. If your ok with that and if you're trying to make a cinder block go fast it's definitely best bang for your buck. Plus just about any shop anywhere can service it . With most parts easily obtained at any auto parts store. @Broski If I don't have the Supercharged LS (750+hp with just a cam) swap done on my white 80 done by SAS ill let you take it up the wall it has a 5lb boost SC on it I think you will like it. Having that 25% extra Hp at a crawl mixed with the crawl gears in the t case works nicley in the rocks.

Case in point (sorry Daniel) but did anyone see Long Cruiser’s posts about coming back from KOH??? Hits Green River UT and lost the transmissions due to poorly routed transmission cooler lines in his LS Swapped limo.

I had to look up Long Cruiser on Instagram to see what happened. Learn from other people's mistakes....

Blew transmission lines twice: this year, and last year. There is a message there..😉

Blew a HG in the 1FZ-FE before that, which brought on the LS Swap. I mean, that is not out of character for the 1FZ-FE..😉

From his Insta, I mean..that is one way to run the transmission lines...😬

He also used Selkirk LS engine mounts..🤦🏻

They should come with a warning: "You have neutered your vehicle and it is a mall princess now, please do not off-road"

I don't mean to rag on the guy. As you wrote, there is a huge range of DIY LS swaps....

My daughter says it’s sounds like a civic. And it’s nasty. I’m like. Get me some for my birthday then.

I went with the ACC “Essex” mass backed carpet (18072182) in Prairie Tan (color 1076TP) in my ‘97 40th edition. I purchased from Rock Auto (it was on sale at the time). The thicker pile of the carpet combined with the mass backing makes it more difficult to install, but it looks and feels incredible when completed. I also put a layer of sound deader below the carpet, which was probably overkill and added another layer of complexity to the install since the backed carpet + sound deader ended up well over 1/2” thick.

Link for horns I used (not from this company, just a random listing for the right parts)...waaay better than stock while still being "stock"... ;)

About a 5 minute install if you still have stock wiring...

You guys may be purest to the 80s which is great. However, have you ever thought about ls swapping? I encourage this behavior. :). Parts are everywhere, I've worked on VW, mercedes, subaru, honda engines.. and I find the ls motor is simple to work on and it's reliable (our truck had 400k miles). And listening to the 400 plus hp ls, v8 sound off the 2.5" exhaust sparks me joy every time. Just a thought.

IF I had the $40,000.00 that is quoted I would do it, but I have a very small bank account to work with, some of us are just POOR!

Indeed…gotta work with what the bank account will allow. People with a lot of money have a hard time understanding poverty.

Dan (long cruiser) is a friend of mine. He is lawyer Not a mechanic. He did the swap himself. I have seen worse swaps from so called shops. . I know in my 40yrs + of being a Professional Mechanic and custom car building I have had my share of Mistakes, bad ideas, etc. I'd love to say I have never ran a bad line or tried to get away with something cheesy and lost. If your head is in the right spot it is this kind of stuff that makes you better. I would bet Dan will never make that mistake again . Kudos to Dan for Getting it done.

Unless you started out poor and worked your way out of it.

Ive had a turbo 1fz and it was tons of fun. I was running well above the recommended boost levels with fuel mods and its a blast to 12 lbs of boost. But without proper engine management, mainly timing control, that was the limits. I was getting ready to turbo my 2nd cruiser when a 6bt fell in my lap. After having the 6bt power for a year now I couldnt imagine not having it. It pulls hills like a freight train and gets 20 mpg. Ill never not have a cummins swapped land cruiser. I get to play with turbos and a million mile motor.
