What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

That was me...😉

The same seller has the Lexus LX450 version for $5 more. I thought they were the same part number: 85315-60071

It arrived.

It was not an original OEM part 85315-60071. It appears to be slimmer substitute part 85325-60061, which does work, but doesn't hold the full gallon of washer fluid like the original.

Sending it back because I can buy 85325-60061 much cheaper from other sources if I wanted a slimmer version and the seller should have mentioned that it wasn't the original OEM part but a slimmer substitute.

Left is what was sent vs original OEM.

It is an OEM number for non-US markets.

Here is what I do for rust on a frame.

Clean first to get the grime off the frame
Spray on Krud Kutter (now know Rust-Oleum Rust Dissolver Trigger Spray Gel). Great for vertical surfaces.
Let it sit for >30 minutes.
Rinse with water
Wire Brush it.
Repeat.

Krud Kutter will dissolve rust, not just cover it, and given enough applications, will result in clean steel.

Clean with a solvent
Paint with Rust-Oleum Primer
Paint with Rust-Oleum Top Coat.

I think I used Semi-Gloss Black Enamel.

I then spray everything liberally with Fluid Film. Anytime I get under my LX450, I usually have a can of Fluid Film with me.

I am not a fan of using a rubberized undercoating. It just traps water and hides rust. Just a huge no go for me.

Impressive - looks like at least 2 buckets of elbow grease

Repaired Driver-side O2 Sensor that had “popped” out. The original 1994 nuts on the O2 mounting studs on downpipe likely rusted off and I found the sensor hanging by the wire harness. Studs were crusty and rusty so new nuts would not thread on. Took a M8 x 1.25 die and re-cut the threads clean. (A major PITA to get a wrench in that little space). Threads cleaned up nicely actually. Ordered new nuts and gasket.

2 of 90179-08959 - O2 sensor nuts
1 of 89466 - 02 sensor gasket

Applied anti-seize and tightened up.

Nuts are 12mm head.

If you are repairing one on Passenger side downpipe you will probably need the cover if it has rusted off too.

1 of 89437 - 02 sensor cover.

Photos show one stud recut and the other one before recut.

Anyone heard of this shop on Instagram? They are selling parts for all series of LC online, but they are giving me scammer vibes.

Didn’t get as much done as we hoped today. High was 15 and even in the garage it was cold. Replaced Air injection rail check valve -

Oil change- air filter - replaced a couple more vacuum hoses -

We have to put in a new thermostat which I have but the gasket didn’t come. It’s 5 degrees in morning and 15-25 highs, and I can’t keep temps up with a thermostat stuck open, so put some foam board behind 1/2 the grille and the bandaid seemed to work like a charm. Only fun thing was adding a Cruiser Tech sticker from my visit to CA last week and an Australia sticker cause I have hunted there using a 70’s series and rode to camp 6 hours in an 80.

Driver side rear “Blinkah” bulb replacement and repair of split lens. Bulb burned out and when pulling to replace found a layer of ice and water in the top compartment. (It’s -6• F here today in Boston area) and a ton of corrosion from like years of water penetration.

1.) Cleaned up bulb socket with Dremel brush.
2.) Pulled Taillight assembly and brought to basement to use heat gun to thaw ice block out and dry.
3.) Filled in crack with Epoxy Resin
4.) Autozone for a new bulb
5.) Put it all back together.
6.) Bingo, all set.

Window Rocket install. Works great. Couldn’t fit behind kick panel because prior owner had rats nest of extra wiring for alarm, kills switch, cell phone, who knows what else and I didn’t want to try to move around the factory wiring harness too mush. And I’m not good enough with wiring to try to untangle and get rid of all the add ons. The unit fit perfectly up above the dead pedal.
