those filters are fine, been using them in mine for a few years now and no issues whatsoever

Any genuine filter is better than any aftermarket in my experience, especially for filters not installed with the top facing the sky. Several instances in my vehicles and ones we've worked on on 1FZ, 1HD-## etc of faster oil pressure on cold start with a genuine filter.

Just found out why I've been bottoming out every time I've tried to put shorter springs on, the track bar bracket is hitting a crossmember. It wasn't hitting when i bought the 80 because the lift was so high, I've been trying to lower it with no success, it finally dawned on my dumb brain that its not a bump stops or springs issue, so i started looking at some of the diy stuff from the p/o. Good news is the track bar will have better geometry after i drill a new position for it, I’ll also grind down the bracket a couple inches for now.

Oil and Filter change, brake and clutch fluids look horrible so will flush them next. Slowly getting all the fluids replaced.

Small oil filter because firstly it's what Mr Yota specifies for this (11/96) and secondly I have a theory (probably incorrect) that I get oil pressure faster with the smaller filter and this doesn't do many km anyway so the oil will probably be changed in 12 months rather than due to KM.

That theory only works a)if the filter drains and b) if you don't fill the filter before install

Picked up another complete one This weekend for rebuild. Also picked up a 1fz block and front bumper.

Removed the first pieces of wood trim around the shifter and radio (obviously have more cleanup to do) and got a functioning head unit out of another project car that doesn't need it. Slowly but surely making some progress

Over the past 1.5 months, culminating to this weekend:

Front axle rebuild
Rear Axle bearings & seals
Full brake system rebuild - gathering parts for larger discs up front
Front and Rear 4.88 gears with Eaton E-Locker in front (shout out to Joe at Performance Muffler & Auto in Montrose for the set up!)
Raceline 930B Shift on BFG 315 /70 R17 KO2's

Still need to run wiring for the front locker.
Plan to add some kind of lunchbox locker, swing-out bumper & sliders next spring. It's been a long time coming.
Getting big smiles per gallon this weekend!!

... and went out to Cow Creek as part of the gearing run-in and check out the new shoes!

Two cats. Sarah's cat Mystique and my cat Ellie.
It was cold last night and Ellie spent the entire night inside my sleeping bag. Sarah's cat spends a lot of her time perched on Sarah's shoulders.
A Guy used to altitudes between 5,000 feet and 6,700 feet can get a raging headache at 11,000 feet overnight. I was surprised.

Bled the new mc using this kit. Got a big bubble then a few little ones with wife pushing pedal. Took 4 pumps then no air. Next will be to actuate the ABS with jumpers then bleed.

Water has always worked for me at high altitude, tons of it. I stood on the top of peak 8 (12,998’) at Breckenridge and had no issues except I had to go pee really Baaaaaad.

You know that smell………that effervescent smell…….that 3 day old dropped ass bouquet to the nostrils smell……..it smells…..like….rust free.
It’s time ladies and gentleman……it’s tyyyyme. Also found what I think is a temperature sensor (small metal piece with wires surrounded by a cylinder open at both ends) dangling precariously by its wires. I used a “mystery bolt” from the bench and remounted and secured it right in front of the condenser behind the front bumper. Whoa! It fixed my jumping rpm needle! Must have needed to be grounded to metal. No more jumping rpm needle.

Shed a couple pounds off the driveline. It’s been binding on turns as long as I’ve owned it, finally got around to pulling the VC.
Possible unrelated but my noise on deacceleration is now gone. Only other thing I did was grease the driveshafts.
