Finally got to take it out of town for a few days! Ran over to Gunnison for a bike race. Nice to go back and visit. Gunnison is where I went to college and I have not been back since the cruiser towed a U-Haul with all my crap out of there a little over two years ago. While there I hung with my dad and got to play with his new setup.

He got a 2014 Tundra with a Four Wheel Camper on the back. We really lucked out on the combo. I found the truck on Expediton Portal classifeds down in Californa. It was already setup to handle a camper with beefed up leaf springs, fox 2.5 remote resi shocks, total chaos upper control arms, etc. It was totally turn key. On the roadtrip back my dad found the Fwc Hawk second hand that is basically in brand new shape. It is the perfect setup for him I am so happy he got it.

While in Gunnison I did a bike race called the Growler. 40 miles of single track. Damn did it kick my butt.

We took Cottonwood Pass that they just opened on the way home and geez is there a lot of snow up high.

Cruiser rolled 310,000 and did not skip a beat. The Delta arms and Red Head steering box make it so much more fun to drive.

Hartman Rocks is an awesome trail system!

Last few weekends...

  1. Hit 185,000 miles
  2. Replaced rear logo (was ripped off in car wash a year ago), noticed some rust on the screws under the cargo mat. Even with a rubber wheel, not easy to get that old stuff off.
  3. Replaced front and rear wipers. I had some Bosch wipers for a long time and went with Toyota replacements. I like the little details like "P" for passenger and it's nice to have quiet, clean glass in the rain. My rear wiper has never been able to make a full cycle, it always gets stuck halfway until I turn it off then on again. The new wiper blade didn't fix that..guess it's the motor?
  4. Oil and filter change - sent sample for analysis with all my fingers crossed.
  5. Battery and fusible links replacement
    1. How long are alternators good for? I thought a new battery would get rid of the slight "ticking" of the battery meter but it's still there...is that normal? Wondering how difficult it is to replace the alternator brushes and if that is worth getting into before my trip.

I replied to your other post regarding the ticking, mine does the same thing and has done it from the day I bought it. Kevin aka Tools R Us told me not to worry about it.

Alligator snapping turtle research has moved to Fort Chaffee in NW Arkansas. Drove through a few shallow water tank traps today. Roads have been nasty dusty but rains are coming

Thank you - anything from Kevin is absolute truth for me (RIP) so appreciate you sharing that.

Refinished my spare wheel as it’s getting a new tire because old tire was not same size as rest. It was rough. View attachment 3641714
Didn’t want to sand aluminum anywhere at my house. So paid $64 to have chemical stripped and sandblasted.
It came back feeling like a grinding wheel.

Lots of filler primer, then silver paint, then oem grey for windows, then the final touch is the 2k clear coat.

Overkill for a spare. Yes. But it was fun learning process and to practice painting.
Looks awesome! I've always loved the way Toyota did the Collector's Edition rims. When I got mine the rims were in super good condition but had crap tires. So I swapped the good tires and not so good rims from my 1995 to the CE. on to it instead of paying to swap the tires on the rims.

I had a very "methodical" piece-by-piece weekend. If @Fj80oregon worked at my pace he would need to find a new way to pay the bills.... but progress is progress and hopefully I get all those @#$&*! tiny vacuum hoses connected back to correct spots!

I went ahead and installed all the sensors on the driver's side of the block, head and upper intake manifold along with a new front seal and harmonic balancer and new gaskets for the oil cooler. Also installed 6 new injectors (incl new wire connectors) and new fuel pressure regulator along with all new fuels, cooling and vac hoses. Had already recently replaced the power steering pump (and aftmkt fin cooler), and alternator, water pump and have all a new oem radiator to finish things up. Ended up replacing a lot more parts (and spending a lot more $$!) than I had originally planned on what started out to be a preventative head gasket replacement, but hopefully it pays off in the end as well as resolving a bunch of the small oil leaks that were driving me crazy (still have a small leak that is either the upper oil pan or rear main seal I will need to tackle at some point).

Big thanks to @OTRAMM and @Fj80oregon, and IH8mud for making this project something I could tackle on my own! I guess the big test will be to see if the ol beast starts on the 1st try in hopefully a week (or so).

Nice work! New exhaust manifolds also!! Man if only I could rebuild Toyota motors for a living that would be awesome. Being a plumber is a little more stable and the job security is never going anywhere.

Thxs! its just a paint job on the manifolds. tried it first on my 40 manifolds 2yrs ago and still not peeling (although they have faded a bit) 🤞
