I absolutely love Arizona monsoon season (prob same as Utah’s) for those rapid onset fake-looking super squalls and resulting river flows. So fun to cruise in!
Broke a head off a bolt the other week while trying to get one of my sliders straightened out. Finally got around to extracting it today and it was shockingly painless. Plenty of penetrating oil, a tight pair of vicegrips, and a little twist was all it took to break it free and thread it out by hand.
Trip meter has always worked fine but the reset plunger always seemed like it could use a service. Numbers finally started sticking a couple days ago, so currently have the dash apart. Gotta love easy tinkering with a beer. Also taking the opportunity to route my scangauge cable behind the panels. Dropped the OBD port down behind fuses & running it over. I like mine above the AC buttons (see velcro) as opposed to on top of the steering column
Apparently I’m one of the few with a D light that still works, but it’s good to know this is easy, should it go out. Now this has me thinking about changing the colors, but I like the classic green.
Started yesterday with a transfer case drail/fill and a trans drain/fill. Both went poorly....The bolts on the xfer case guard broke off, and someone had messed up the drain plug on my trans pan (before I owned it).
Today's repair was getting the xfer case guard back in order. Drill the old bolts out and retap....that sucked, but at least there was shade under the truck!
Built a portable shower / car wash / tap combo for use in trips / offroad.
pics of prototype 1 and 2.
This is mobile version, I will build one in the car but after using this one for a while.
I added a magnet to the tap so i can stick it any where on the car.
after gutting the factory alarm back in july and tearing most of the interior out for other work "while i was in there", i finally found time to tackle those other things.
pulled the front and second row belts and sent them off last Tues to myairbags.com for repair. mine were pretty frayed and the retractors were SLOW. hope to get those back this week.
replaced the accelerator cable. mine was sticking pretty bad and not returning to idle without physically pulling the pedal back. lubed helped but the jacket was destroyed as you can see. worst part was reattaching the upper cable bracket to the firewall but not terrible...mostly uncomfortable even with the seat out.
installed the backup camera i've had in a box for months. license plate bracket wasn't going to allow any tweaking to camera angle, so used the hard mount and screwed it into the plastic plate light housing. ran wires through boot with the license plate lights, then through the boot between the tailgate and spare tire area. both were tight but got it done. had to extend the power and ground, and pushed those into the left quarter panel area via the drain hose grommet. tapped into the reverse light power and ground, then onto the Sony headunit reverse wire. tried finding a +acc wire, so i could use the camera at any time, but that just triggered the camera at all times....not what i wanted.
while i had the center console and dash out to route the camera wires, i found my shifter boot was completely torn. sourced a new one and a grommet for the linkage. had to tap threads for one of the bolts holding the tcase shifter boot down due to a previous owner messing something up there. oh yea, while i was under the truck disconnecting the linkage i noticed one of my radius arm bolts was loose/backed out about 1/4"!!! grabbed my 22mm wrenches and tightened that up. the other one, and both on the other side were tight. odd. will keep an eye on it.
I replaced my Duracell Group 31 AGM battery with a new X2Power Group31 AGM battery. I've had a Deka group31, the Duracell and now the X2. It's good to be able to compare the different battery options. So far the Duracell didn't perform as well as the Deka and we'll see how this X2 holds up. Untitled by Adam Tolman, on Flickr
Looks like it should work! Note, if you get fed up with fiddling it, there is a great solution for Scepter cans (and if you have on-board-air). Just screw this cap on and pressurize the can - works great for me, and my black MWC is hanging off my ladder so the water warms up in the sun. from jagmte.com

Rotated the tires...first time doing that on a vehicle myself, believe it or not. Bought a (relatively) cheap Harbor Freight impact wrench to help the job go faster, and it definitely did.
Very glad I did the job when I did, because I decided to check control arm/knuckle bolt and caliper bolt torque while I had the wheels off. Found a knuckle stud/bolt on the left side completely gone! And two other bolts loose. Yikes.
I had a spare, but I want to be sure it's installed properly (never done the stud itself). Gonna have my local stealership service guys check it for me.
Coolant system update…all preventative maintenance.
1997, not triple locked, 220,905 miles.
My buddy helped me update the water pump, thermostat, and fan clutch (all Aisin), Denso radiator, radiator/heater hoses from Wit’s End, block drain, OEM belts, Shell Rotella 15-40 oil change with OEM filter, AND…new hood struts
Everything torqued to FSM numbers…except the nuts on the fan clutch….could only find “good and snug” here on MUD, so, they’re “good and snug” with loctite to help.
Today, since she was super dirty, I washed and tried my hand at waxing her
