You save roughly 160 dollars in 10,000 miles on average with the diesel prices and your mpg I figure. 11.5mpg vs 16mpg avg. So in 100,000 you'll save 1600 dollars or so. I'm not bashing your diesel decision at all. Just running numbers on the savings. I'm glad your happy with your diesel. I thought about going diesel as well. A lot of factors go into the decision.

When I bought it diesel and regular were matched.

Again, look at my numbers.

3.50 a gallon for 87. 11.5 mpg. That's $.304 a mile.

3.50 a gallon for diesel. 16 mpg. That's $.218 per mile. So it's a savings of basically $.08 a mile. Or $24 per tank. I average 310 miles per fill up.

I've put 8000 miles on it in 6 months.

I'm currently seeing $425 for 87 and 5.25 for diesel.
87 is $.369 a mile
Diesel is $.328 per mile.

So I'm currently saving $12 a tank.

I have a much simpler platform. Less maintenance. Less baseline. And I paid at most 5k more than a comparable gas rig.

At .04 it'll take me 125k to surpass the gas rig.

But at .08 it's 60k and I'll do that in 3-4 years.
And even with 60k on the clock I still don't have 200k miles on my rig.

That said, I wanted diesel regardless.
I also wanted low miles and finding a local 80 under 200k was basically impossible when I bought mine.
This one was 25 miles away.

Found some Unobtanium at my local stealership. Put the old one through the Vaporrust and wire wheel treatment several times.....kiddos like warm toes in the backseat.

Smartly done! I don't know why people delete these while at the same time complaining that someone shouldn't put some non-toyota part on their rig..."keep it Toyota parts only(stock)" thing. When this is one of the best parts of the 80, having rear heat, especially in places like here in Minnesota.

Plus you can idle forever while just sipping that diesel compared the gas version, and the sound!! I've always loved the sound of an idling diesel engine.

I'm working a 1fz head gasket / full engine refresh on my 1997 but somewhere in the back of my mind I keep thinking a 1hd-fte / manual conversion would be pretty sexy .......

The sound was a big negative issue to me actually. Mainly because I end up in shady areas at times and need to blend in as much as possible. My exhaust is as quiet as I can get it. I'll not wash it too for a while so it doesn't stick out if I know I'll be in areas like that. I take my cruiser all over though.

I think your math is correct and mine isn't. Lol

I do like the sound. I've owned diesels back to 2002. I've had 6 before the land cruiser.

I had an ex wife that was an accountant. I have spreadsheets that track cost to own through all aspects of maint and insurance and payments if payments exist.

I understand why people delete. My old one was a coolant timebomb. I happen to have the engine and tranny out so it was an easy fix (assuming you can find piping).

Nice! Where'd you snag it? Been looked for some that wasn't $40 a can or just a tiny bottle of touchup from a dealer.
Duplicolor BTY1603
According to the label it is 6M2
I have not painted any body panels with it (I use it for touch up on door sills / door edges, ETC) and things like this :D

Lots of work on the 80 over the last few weeks....

Bigger brakes up front including new pads, rotors and calipers (full kit in the works by Cruiser Outfitters...) I Like Big Brakes and I Cannot Lie!!! - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/i-like-big-brakes-and-i-cannot-lie.1203263/page-7#post-14414112

14mm lug studs all around. Used the 100/200/Tundra studs.

New OEM rear rotors and pads

Rebuilt (Redhead) and ported steering box with 105 sector shaft - my stock shaft was twisted.

Plated frame @ steering box and reinforced upper track bar mount.

Power steering cooler upgraded to Derale.

4.88 gears in the factory locked diffs.

Rebuilt both axles.

New OEM rear driveshaft - old one had some slop in the slip yoke.

New Aisin water pump, AC and Alt idler pulleys, new OEM belts, flushed coolant.

Reman OEM alternator.

All new suspension bushings.

Oil change and added Fumoto drain valve finally.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something...

In a slow period. Nice to not have to do anything immediately. Knuckle rebuild coming up soon but no pressing issues, just need to pick up a new drift set and moly grease/etc.

Neighbor right around the corner has a sweet champagne 96 LX - 2.5” on 315s with more mods than mine. He just picked up a 40 semi-project, after years of not having one. Feeling good in the hood.

It lives again after 8 years of sitting. Dropped and cleaned out the gas tank, replaced pump/sender/bracketry then tuned up with plugs/wires/rotor/cap/vc gasket/bunch of smaller random "while youre in there" stuff and it purrs. Did a compression test, got 140-148 psi on a cold engine with 351k and no head gasket history. Gonna run on 91 for a lil while with heet to clean up any lingering gunk.

Also deep cleaned interior and fixed seat gears/rewrapped steering wheel. Need a break from working on this thing. I'm tired.

Started with a quick oil change, differentials greased, and tired rotation.

Since the recent rebuild I've had a knock sensors, crank sensor, and distributor code. Changed those out and everything is feeling smooth with no codes.

Bonehead thinking and confusion, I was trying to use @NLXTACYs Piece Pipe as his Vacuum Tree🤦🏽‍♂️

Not the correct location 🙅🏽‍♂️

So temporarily I have a hose plumed into one of the plenum ports I'm not using to measure boost

Corrected my mistake from trying to use @NLXTACY's Piece Pipe for the boost sensor, by buying a 1/8 male bsp to 1/8 female npt adapter.

While the wife and daughter were sleep, it gave me enough peace and quiet to install the glove box grab bar.

I could only find one in gray.

Reading through the install thread, most people had issues getting the air duct out of the way. Mine was getting the nut on and tight🔩 behind the console.

Point of no return.

IMO it's a pretty good match.
