May actually attend the Yankee Toys Fall Gathering event in New Hampshire this year! Checkin things off. Today Josie and I got the old steering gear out. And pitman arm off with 2day soak of PBblaster, puller tight with breaker bar, and 1/2 dozen small sledge whacks on arm at 90° angle. Only causality being a tierod end sacrifice.....luckily we had a spare!

@Dissent, three questions on the Land Cruiser Grilles, grill you have.
  1. Did you have them cut the grill for the Lexus symbol or was that your work?
  2. On the lights, same question.
  3. What about clearance for the LED lights, any fitment issues?
I am seriously thinking of pulling the trigger on this before I start putting everything back together. I have an LCP elec fan I also will be installing that may cloud the issue.

More fun with the cruiser and the shotgun!!!! I love this time of year.

The ScanGauge quickly made it pretty obvious that the ECT Sensor was no good, even to my totally uneducated eyes. Ordered a new one (and copper washer) and popped it in. Not the most convenient spot to get to but wasn’t too bad.

Night and day difference noticed right away. Had at one point threw a p0116 so I was really hopeful this was the issue.

I'm down in Rochester. Figure most of the interesting stuff is further north or east along the Wisconsin border.
Yeah, you are right. There's some nice county forest and state forests on the Wisconsin side of the St. Croix. Or up in the Chequamegon National Forest in Wisconsin. Minnesota state forests are kinda lame. Shoot me a pm and I can show you where I mean. I am in Minneapolis.

Kelly has many options for the grille insert. I wanted maximum airflow and planned to put 2x 7" lights in there as well so I went with the large hexagon design with the Lexus "L". When I received the grille, the L is actually solid in the pattern of hexagons and it came with a separate cut out L but it was just rough metal. I took the seperate L to a chrome polish shop in Phoenix and had them shape it and chrome it to look like a proper Lexus L and then stuck it on to the molded in L on the grille with VHB tape. It turned out great! I was trying to keep my offroad lights tucked into the grille rather than on the bumper for more security. I had to park in a lot of sketchy neighborhoods for work for a time. Luckily, when I sought out projector headlight options, I came across the cheapest one from Dapper Lighting that featured a large honeycomb design that matched my grille. In hind sight, my projectors max out at 35W ballasts because they are only 2.5" lenses and I can't go full size due to the sheet metal between the OEM headlight holes restricting me to 4.5" depth. To go with a full size 3.5" lensess, you need about 5.5" to 6" of depth. I may cut the sheet metal in the future and go with 55w projectors but I'm not sure.

Anyhow, the LED's I have in the grille are only 2.5" or so deep but after I put it together, I have almost another 1/2" before they are flush which means I could have gone with the KC Hi-Lite Slimlite **EDIT** Halogen I was eyeballing originally (Now in 2021 they replaced the halogen with LED (which are still 2.875") and they rock. I'll be seriously looking at upgrading to these). Between the OEM oil cooler and the SPAL electric fan, I only had like 2.5" to 2.75" of depth which isn't much. I don't think it would look too bad if they stuck out a bit.

I don't like the Red LED lights I have now, they are super bright but they don't cast very far out and really make the signs and trees too bright up close. I may swap them out for some Baja Designs LP6 or LP4 lights. TN has a law that you can only have 4x lamps on at any time so I'm trying to figure out what to do. JW Speaker 7" lights are an option, they are much wider beams but for the price I can keep my projectors and add the LP6's. Not sure what to do yet.

Phil's fan fits much lower than the SPAL fan I have in place now. It probably won't be in the way. It's much thinner too. Here's some more pics of the grille. You can see the beam pattern from the HID lights. They have a bixenon low/high beam meaning the beam is always on but there's a shutter that just chops it in half to set low beams.

@nothovi

Looks like we got a few local 80s to do some run up north. Maybe even get some orange stain from the iron range ohv if you guys up for some rocks.

The b2b trail was a good time, great camping as well.

Count me in! I'm in the Madison area and always up for a weekend in the woods. My old 80 is nearly baselined to the point of taking a trip. Valve Adjustment and 2 pinion seals and I am good!

Still working on mine, but I'm not really sure the baselining is ever really done from what I hear. Hoping to have it mostly ready for a trip soon though. We'll have to get something organized!

I recently did a 3K round-trip from LA to Seattle, John Denver country roads on repeat.

Another gratitude-filled experience bonding with the 80, but a little bit of c-dissonance with the wild fires all too common place.

(Summer sun, afternoon, somewhere near Oregon)
Damn, that song will be burned in my brain all night now, thanks a lot lol....

I prefer to have silence and throw the windows down(sometimes because they refuse to go back up) when on road trips. Maybe my 80 talks to me and I might listen, who knows but it seems to just feel better hearing those tires hum down the road.

Sucks on the fires, we seem to be getting relief this year in CO but also feel the aftermath of the smoke, which seems relentless this year. Best of luck to those having to deal with the fires on the west coast last couple years and more important thanks to those that continue to contribute to the fight,

Went to run Holy Cross. What a s*** show!! So many vehicles! Got frustrated waiting at the creek crossing. Turned around and went back down.

It's getting bad here, almost where you must go weekdays and NEVER a holiday or weekend without a doubt...
I just stay home on holidays and get shiat done around the house anymore.

same. Hoped that an early start on saturday would work. we weren't early enough.
I think it was Jeep merit badge day or something......

Finally found just one lx450 rim so I can have a matching spare now with the Yokohama 35” G003’s

Cleaned it up using “aircraft paint stripper” which worked really well especially for the thick clear coat Toyota uses on there rims.

Taping the rim was horrendous, makes one think about there life choices..lol..but it pays off in the end 😉

First pic shows some of the clear coat that didn’t come off with first application of paint stripper, second spray got it all off.

Second pic is 4 coats of rustoleum

3rd is taping

4th is 4 coats of midnight black

When all is dry I will hit it with 4 coats of clear for the glassy look..
