What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (42 Viewers)

Just did some quick evening off roading after work. Bang's Canyon north of Grand Junction.

This is the first time I've gotten the cruiser on some serious rock trails and it is Amazing! I'm coming from an IFS Tacoma which is night and day. The flex on the FJ80 is amazing. It doesn't loose traction as the tires don't leave the ground. Plus, it just feels so much better as it isn't tippy like the IFS vehicles. The cab mostly stays stable and the suspension does the work. For the first rocky descent I went down, I was waiting for the first dip and it never came, the FJ just floated right through it. I have front and rear lockers to install, but it's so much better than the Tacoma with open diffs and no traction control.

Finally finished putting it together after paint. Paint looks blue during the day. Gray at night. I’m still a little unsure about the color, but it definitely matches what I picked. Porches graphite blue metallic. I’m not sure about the gun metal color I painted the grill/ light trim..... I might change it to black. 🤔

I personally like it. It’s classy and slightly different than every other 80. Although some cement gray and black trim trucks look awesome, manny end up looking cheap and played out. I vote roll this combo.

love the look. Can you share some more pics or build thread that shows more?

good looking rig.

Leave the gun metal, it plays better. All black trim was never my favorite but I also think it is getting played out as well.

I vote gunmetal for the grille. Looks perfect.

I agree it looks great...I also really like the fact that it's not a common color. Roll with it I say

I made a trip to Greenville this weekend (4 hours from home) for a test for my job. On the ferry (I live on an actual island only accessible with a car by boat) I noticed a drip from close to the power steering high pressure lines. I thought it was my high pressure line. (witch has been leaking too) Turns out its the radiator. it leaked out probably 2-3 cups. I toped the radiator off with some water at about half way to my destination but its back where it was when I noticed it. Recently replaced the thermostat (Not leaking) but I think that caused the 30 year old OEM tank to leak.

then turns out the radiator was the least of my worries.... That trip to Greenville from Ocracoke and back was been nothing but hell. I blew a break line on the way back. Its very unsettling when you have to stop at highway speeds and feel the breaks travel to the floor.... thank god for e brakes. and of course its a hard line section that runs beside the gas tank and frame rail almost the length of the fj80. turns out a half inch long section was rusty just in a spot where its not noticeable. Then at the auto zone (to get fluid so I could limp home) The car did the whole cranking cranking cranking cranking cranking.... it did not start. I did get 25 feet of break line but now the car refuses to start!. it was not the EFI fuse I have a spare. It started 30min later and I have no idea why it decided to. I had just found a tow service. The fuel pump is new. previous owner replaced it. and I can confirm it because I have been in the tank to replace the filter on the end. maybe fuel pressure regulator or the coil is not working properly? I blame Friday the 13th.

Today Saturday I am flaring and replacing break lines... I have one more fitting to take off. Then to bleed the breaks. Radiator is still on the way. Hopefully that will be ok when it comes in. I purchased new front window regulators at the same time! still don't know why it would not crank though. I think fuel pressure regulator maybe? I don't think its the efi

Big fj80 repair weekend! Gotta keep my old gal going.

Yikes, hope you don't run into any big hiccups with repairs!!

Beginning the process of cleaning the TB, replacing all water bypass hoses, breather hoses, vacuum hoses and fuel filter.

I found out that a good product for cleaning the crud out of the TB is Lucas fuel system treatment. I coated the the TB bore with it and let it soak overnight and the next morning a tooth brush and a good bit of elbow grease cleaned it up quite well. I had to use a small wire brush on a couple tough spots and a can of CRC TB cleaner for the small passages. The Lucas was already in my cabinet and took the place of several cans of aerosol cleaner.

Does anyone know how to put this thing back together???

The rig look great, very cool that Porsche blue color, are you sure those are only 33's? They look bigger, like 35's or 37's? Also, how is the road noise on the KM3? I loved the KM2's but man, they were noisy.

Signature just updated. They are 37” KM3’s. They are awesome. I have ran this tire on 2 other trucks. Love it. A little louder than the KO2. But not terrible.

I have the same tires. Just waiting to get my lift done. Is that really only a 2" lift to fit the KM3's?

Yes. 2” lift. I have some new ironman heavy load front springs I need to swap out in the front to bring the front up since installing the winch and front bumper. I am thinking it will come up 3/4”-1”. I hammered the rear of the front fenders a little to clear rubbing when turning into driveways and such around town. It doesn’t rub at all around town now. I know it will when wheeling. I will most move the front axle 1” forward like @Box Rocket did to his rig. He has a good write up in his build thread.

Adjusted handbrake
Added grease to CV's
Ordered some internal LED lights, as i needed a new rear indicator light anyway
Changed transfer case oil
Its not by DD, so just drove it around town for a while cause i can!

Next research some new tires and tackle caster correction......., and also need to finally decide on rear auto locker

Nothing interesting but fun to get a chance to do some small jobs......
