We’ve gotten about a foot of snow in the last couple of days (5” last night/this morning). Which is cool. Got to get out and play a little this morning after taking my son to take the ACT.

Picked him up and the mailman delivered these. My son’s is the 55.

I’m a Yeti guy myself. Have a 75 and a 35 that fits well in the 4x4Labs cargo basket on the swingout. Someone told me that I would freeze my food if I used dry ice when was prepping for a three week trip
The big Yeti does take up more space in the cab but it’s fool proof and the ice lasts an incredibly long time. I don’t think a fridge will ever be on my “to buy” list.

Fridge was nevernon my list either but add up all the bags of ice youve bought in 10 yrs of wheeling/camping. Fridge money right there at 2-3 bags/weekend.

Also for dry ice. Put on bottom of cooler. Cover with towel, cardhoard, or 1-2" ice then food and it acts as fridge. However place food on bottom, cover with ice, top with dry ice it acts as A freezer. Ive even done a fridge freezer combo cooler with a cutting hoard in middle standing and dry ice on bottom on one side, top on the other. Worked great in an oversize non fancy/$$$$$ ass super thick almost price of fridge cooler. Generic igloo.

Now I just have to figure out how to program the thing.

Got it transmitting/receiving pretty good. You need a really good ground on that antenna/bracket thingie. Still working on the channel programming, my computer crashed and burned so I have to start over once I get the new computer up and running.

If I actually took a trip where I’d be far from services for more than a week, I would definitely get a fridge. The cost of it all isn’t the issue but rather the fact that I don’t want to do dual batteries and all the wiring and possibly a solar panel ....... What’s next, a satellite dish?

Good info about the packing. I too have the cutting board/divider. It’s a great feature.

Satellite would be awesome, with data access from anywhere I could work from my chair while waiting for the fish to bite.

Got a great deal on a RTT this morning!

Our local REI was having their quarterly Garage Sale (used equipment sale) today and I stumbled on a BRAND NEW Yakima SkyRise 3 man RTT. It was used for 3 months as a floor model, has never been outside, and even had all the hardware still sealed in original bags. Listed for $1500, I got it for $500 :D. Not necessarily the tent I would have picked, but at that price I can Craigslist it if I don't like it and still come out ahead.

My Bowfin Cruisers rack was getting lonely... This should fit up there nicely.

FINALLY got a chance to offroad my rig after installing a lift (3" TourFlex) a couple of weeks ago. Quick stop first to see @reevesci for some forklift flexing, then off to a familiar trail at the Chappie OHV Park near Shasta Dam. Had a blast...the added clearance I'm liking a lot, and the rig is smooth and compliant now - no jarring on the rough stuff any more. A fine start to the weekend.

For grins, a pic of the Cruiser in its natural habitat:

whats the weight on the yakima?

whats the weight on the yakima?

  • 115 lb for the three person (the one I got).
  • 95 lb for the two person.

SkyRise | RoofTop Tent | Yakima Tent

Eventually I think I'll lean towards a hardshell but this will suffice in the meantime.

In addition to the light weight, Yakima (wanting all things Yakima) has come up with their own style of tool-free quick mount attachment. It is a clamp style with keyed locks and adjustability for round, square, and oval, bars at almost any spacing. Pretty slick if it holds up. Time will tell on how durable it is.
