What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (18 Viewers)

Last weekend I installed my Spartan locker. Honestly a very easy and straight forward job. Slid the axles out, pulled the the differential, threw it up on the bench, put the locker in and slapped it back together. Unfortunately I still had a small leak at the right axle so I ordered new hub gaskets and replaced them this weekend. The old studs looked rough so I ordered some new studs, cones and washers. I'll replace them next weekend. While I was in there I replaced my brake pads. This weekend I replaced the motor on my driver rear door. Pretty easy install following the steps on mud. Come to find out the Toyota motor was fine but PO just unplugged it because the window would pop out of track when rolled all the way down. Slid the track over an inch with a pry bar and good as new. Changed my front diff oil. Went 80 90. I see some guys go heavier on here. Not sure which is better. And I had an academy gift card so I bought a cheap Roto molded ice chest for my rear bumper $60 On sale. Picked up a spare tire cover too. So all in all I should be able to make it safely through the mall parking lot with my locker now. And in the West Texas heat I will have plenty of drinking water for those long walks in the 100 degree heat from the parking lot to the mall. You can never be to safe.

Decided to take out the carpet to shampoo and pressure wash it. Depending on how it turns out, I may look into dying or spraying it. There’s some pretty nasty stains.

I also found 2 pens, 1 pencil, 5 paper clips, french fries, exo-skeleton of a lizard, chapstick cap, and $1.89 in change...not a bad haul

I did mine about a year back. When I saw the state of it I decided to replace it. Price was good so it made it an easy decision.

Where did you get the replacement and any pics of it? How’s the quality?

I was hoping @dnp would be releasing his 80 carpet kit soon...

Hopefully! Just got my crawler gear installed, shocks should be here soon but need to address clicking birf and ujoints, also need from calipers replaced.

Then there is my 5 month old who is quite demanding.....
Babies love wheeling! Mine did.

Got out into the cruiser's natural habitat. Anza Borrego Slot Canyon and Calcite Mine trail...good day!

Third day in a row of ice fishing. Ventured to our honey hole. Somewhat sketchy ice and snow covered road to a 1.5 mile walk -17F windchill. 25-30 mph winds. Ice shelter held up well. Fishing was surprisingly pretty good. A handful of largemouths each.

Only my trust Wits’ End hoodie needed in the shelter.

Put in the upgraded 6K headlight bulbs, low and high beams. Both harness clips are cracked on one corner (how does that happen?) so I filled them with a bunch of bulb grease. Pass side was intermittently working and then not, seemed like a bad ground. It has worked now since I put in the new bulbs.

Oil change and filter (5k interval). Happily uneventful with no leaks after. Just Pennzoil 5w30 High Mileage for the cold winter months. While under the truck I noticed yet more PO crap repairs.

I was losing some trans fluid and now I know why. Who fixes things like this? Notice the factory clamp on the right? It's not holding anything, just on the hose. I was able to tighten down the clamps 2/3 rotation on each clamp. I will leave it like this till spring when I swap out much of the cooling system.

Back of the transmission case was covered in a film of oil. Think I located the source.

Back of the valve cover appears to be leaking. Sweet :bang:

Also noticed a shady coolant hose right under the temp mix valve.

My aftermarket hood (it didn't have holes for the washer fluid jets) didn't seat all the way down where it should in front. It was raised on the front corners maybe 1/4" above the fender lines. When I passed trucks or caught a strong crosswind the front corners of the hood would rock and flex. It was VERY unsettling and looked like the hood was coming up. Reached a frustration point with it and took a BFH to the support and had to backspace the latch a bit too, but finally got it to sit flush now.

Finally, cleaned out the latte catch can. Not too much blow-by for ~5k miles.

Reward for maintenance completed. Thanks to Joey for the simple write up on the oil change.

It got super warm here yesterday .. 62*F ... the frozen Susquehanna River was a fog machine. No poser shot, too many people near the ramp snapping photos for me to hop the truck on the rocks.
Same neck of the woods...

Giving it serious thought too. All that's holding me back is that elusive rear bumper. Just...can't...pull...trigger...

Just go then you will need a new rear bumper sooner. I can’t deal with swing out so might just drag my stock bumper around till it falls off.

Where in the inferno are you? Do you watch Beach ‘N Toys at all? We normally do at least one club run a month.
Claremont area. I'll keep an eye on B&T.

My friend Walt and I loaded up my new-to-me '93 and headed for his property in Aeneas Valley for the 3 day weekend. We got up there to find the road plowed to his gate, and around 10" of snow beyond that. The truck is completely stock and has 285/75R16 AT's. I had no idea how well it would do in the snow. We were only a couple hundred yards from his trailer, but up a hill that curved to the right.

Well, we went a ways and started slipping, and sliding towards the edge. I went to back up and slid some more. Front left tire went off the edge. Fricka fracka. It was dark, Friday night, and I should have given up already. Rather than make a bad situation worse, we stopped while we were behind. We'll dig her out in the morning.

The next morning we went back down there. It wasn't so bad. It was on a turn and there was a dip on the edge of the road there. We dug her out, engaged the lockers, and she walked right out. A bonus was that the lockers engaged and disengaged perfectly. I had never tried them before, and I think it may have been the first time they were ever used.

I had no more problems with her the entire weekend and came away feeling better and better about it every time I drove it. l feel like l got to knowhow it behaves a little bit and l am even more excited than ever.
