I dont think it will be that bad (famous last word LOL) I did a couple miles of Chuckwalla and some very steep loose section one section pictured above. Not a place you want trouble so Im researching the remaining trail on Google earth for piece of mind.

I went this far on Chuckwalla- Google Maps

When you zoom out it looks like someplace on the moon!

It can be quite frightening seeing what ends up where in a roll over. One of the reasons I think those 'baby on board' plaques originally became popular.

My brother had a head-on accident in the hill country of Texas several years ago in his Taco. A guy fell asleep and got his right wheels off the road. When he woke up he over compensated and crossed the line. They both were going 70 when they hit head-on. The other guy was driving a Chevy pickup so he had the weight advantage. My brother's Taco went airborn, over the guard-rail and down into a ditch where it promptly caught on fire. Luckily he had friends behind him in other vehicles (coming back from Mule deer hunting in West Texas) and they put the fire out. Both of his legs were crushed and he was pinned in the vehicle. He was airlifted out, did live and kept both of his legs after some serious surgeries.

The impact was so great that the tail-lights popped out of their sockets. The engine was in the driver's compartment.

That flashlight will be a very heavy airborne missle in an accident....a killing projectile. I could be safe if lashed down properly and it is definitely in a handy position!

HEY.... Y'all have been cheating - it's not the weekend!!!

Just kidding... But I'm about to "dun some stuff with my 80"

Showed up in the

So time to With my And then .....

(Wonder if those emoticons work on mud?)

*EDIT - apparently not...

"Package showed up in the mail, so time to wrench film and beam into space"

Ok, I'll start the "weekend" off. Scored two key blanks for nada, courtesy of my local dealership. Yep, you heard those three words together - dealership, free, and two..

They don't see old cruisers often, and they like to keep them going.

Snapped my old key in my pocket about a week ago - thank god I had a spare in my desk drawer at work...

Stopped by Canadian Tire after that. Had the blank cut for $5. Works perfect - first try.

New thread? $5 Friday mods?

No pictures but I followed @LandCruiserPhil guide and drilled out the ball bearing in my vapor canister. Super easy. Ground off the outer lip on the canister with a flapper disc. Drill out the bearing with a 15/64" bit. Scuffed up the paint and re-assembled with some SteelStik putty. Because I only removed the outer lip the top went back on like a press fit. A little paint and good to go!

Nice vid...I was quite certain that you were a 28 year old Asian though...:hmm:

Don't forget female.

I also managed to mess the car up a little.
Tried to do a MAF mod, Qball style, but did not work. Not sure if the wires were placed in the wrong way or what. It started up, but died within 2 seconds.

Put everything back together to the original setup, but now I got this ugly rough idle. All the wires are placed exactly as before the mod, everything tied up nicely. Can't figure it out.

Did you disconnect the battery when messing with the MAF? Every time I disconnect my battery the ECU takes a few engine cycles to sort itself out and stabilize the idle. :meh:

No, I didn't. I did afterwards, thinking the ECU might need to reset. Did not help at all. I also ran it at higher revs. It keeps on shaking, not just at idle, even when it runs higher RPM I can still feel as if one of the spark plugs doesn't work properly.

It's the weekend and I'm busy working on cruiser stuff. I'll have another cruiser video to post by the end of the weekend, but for those of you who like videos, I used my 80 all week to drive to work. While at work I made this video, about work.... Just for fun, and because hey - being paid to make videos is more fun than making videos for free.

Anyway - if you like cool boats, or firefighting equipment - or videos with electronica soundtracks - or just want to see what I do for a day job - check it outs. FYI, I'm the dude driving the pixilated boat...

Now normally I suspect that people might consider a corporate video as suggested product advertisement, but I don't think (could be wrong) that most of you guys are going to run out and buy your own fire boat.... So needless to say - I'm only posting this here for your enjoyment, not as intent to sell boats...

5 days on the trail
Started at King of the Hammers and after 1 day I decided not the event for me.
Spent the next 3 days and ~120 miles of dirt on the Bradshaw Trail and some of its option spurs in California. The main trail is easy with the only concerns of it being in the middle of nowhere, very remote, and some deep sand. The trail skirts several different spectacular mountain range. I saw no other vehicles during my 3 days of travel. Many challenging spurs to explore but I limited myself being solo. I will look forward to more exploring more challenging spur trails with another vehicle support, any takers? Weather was nice with ~75° days and ~50° nights:flipoff2: Also spent some time camping and exploring the banks of the Colorado River. While in the area I checked out and camped in Joshua Tree forest, awesome area. Keeping with my standard travels a good pre check out netted zero issues traveling 1000+ miles over 300 dirt and only needed gas a couple time taking full advantage of a Aux tank.

Awesome! What bumper are you running? Looks good!

I replaced the original, 21 year old hood & hatch struts with these from www.liftsupportsdepot.com
Fronts: PM2006L & PM2006R
Rears: PM1047
I found them on Amazon though.
They are the same dimensions and work well. No more hood or hatch falling on my head!

Apologies if you've covered this elsewhere, but what shock setup are you running and how often are you needing to maintain them, with how many miles you seem to log offroad?

I had a similar issue years ago. Ended up that one of the MAF plug wire crimps was just loose enough to not make full contact. Carefully pull those wires, recrimp, clean any corrosion and apply dielectric grease. If that doesn't fix the stumble... swap MAF sensors with another local 80 owner to see if that fixes the issue. If so get a new Toyota/Denso sensor.
