What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (72 Viewers)

My wife and I picked up the 80 from storage in Baltimore and drove down to the Outer Banks. It was a short stay but the camping was beautiful (except for the 20+ mph winds flapping the tent around) and we got to drive on the beach. The trailer made that a little challenging but the Cruiser pushed through.

What part of the OBX were you? I live in Wilmington, and have been wanting to take a trip out there to camp. I can't believe you found grass to stay on! Looking good...... enjoy!

Ran Ricon spur and Hole in the Rock Trail in the same day with a small talented group. Fast, trouble free, with no drama:) except some rain from mother nature.

I keep eyeing up Wilmington as a place to move to some day....

We camped at Oregon Inlet. The "camping on grass" is a total photo-angle lie. The 80 is on the edge of a paved RV pad but I didn't want to lose face with this crowd. I think Portsmouth Island is the way to go for dispersed camping in OBX but our timeframe for this trip just didn't allow it, low season ferry schedules and all.

If you ever need info or a place to crash while looking... let me know! I'm sure we could fit you in here for a few days!

Well.... great camera work then! Lol I was thinking of all the times I have camped on the beach, I have NEVER seen grass!... now I know why!
It is beautiful out there though, we were on Carolina Beach last weekend just fooling around in the Cruiser, and we ended up watching a Humpback Whale "fishing" for about an hour! Very relaxing out there!

Good looking out. I'm very much appreciate it. Going through a divorce right now, so down the road my options will be more open. I have visited the area and liked it a lot. I've already made a contact at the hospital there which is where I would need to work.

Looks like an 800 mhz or possibly a 460 mhz business two way radio. . If I were you, I would have someone look at the coax cable, and the base ... if its in good shape, re-use, otherwise put in a new antenna base and get your ham license and a 2 meter ham radio. A 1/4 wave antenna will screw right on that base. re seal the antenna base in the hole... that is the best functional place you could put that antenna and you dont have to figure out what to do with an un-used hole.
Thanks for all the info. I do have my ham license and own a portable but plan to buy a hard wired unit. I don't like the idea of holes in my roof and will have a roof rack installed most of the time anyway. So I will move forward with the patch job this morning.

Just ordered a portable this morning. @Dragos80 recommended the Baefong. I take my technician test the 17th.

Phillips 9011 HIR. Going to run 9011 in both the low and high beams.

Let us know how they work out in the high beams. I swapped the 9011 into my lows a few weeks back and am still amazed at the difference they made. world be good see if they have the same effect in the highs...

Photoshoot with the 80 on Friday, and was able to do some load testing on the PrinSu roof rack! Love being able to go to these secluded little corners of Oahu, will post the rest of the pics in My First Land Cruiser! Just Discovered this Forum. thread if anyone is interested.

@LandCruiserPhil did this. It's night and day.

Flushed my cooling system one last time. There was just the faintest of pink coloring to it. Took three full flushes with distilled. Each one running for a day or two. Then the last flush today for good measure.

Took the overflow reservoir out last night and dumped some baking soda in it and vinegar. Shake it up a few times. Let it sit over night. Inside was spotless this morning.

Good for another 6 months or so.

I believe I can still see your ankles. Could you alter the image a tiny bit so it won't be so offensive?

In the comm section we discussed these radios at length.
They are great for beginners. If, down the road, you want a more permanent solution with a lot more power, the little one will not be obsolete. You can lend it to your buddy on the trail, you can use it to communicate with a spotter, take it with you on a hike. It can serve many purposes.
A lot of people think 4W of power is just not enough, but it can be very useful. It does more than a 4W CB radio. Range and clarity is far superior.

Well, the CEL is back. 71-egr. Apparently this code is only on California spec rigs. I'm in Idaho... oh well. Any suggestions what to start with?

Yup, combine it with say a 8800 in truck you have a mobile base station for your handhelds. I love the repeater function on 8800.

Well after all are eforts we manage to sort out the problem a throttle sensor wire was found broken ...and issue resolved
