Air bag suspension seat with a shock absorber.

Put it back!

Been working on a HJ60 that originally came out of Canada. Removed this very View attachment 1730254 View attachment 1730255 View attachment 1730256 interesting seat frame. Anyone ever seen something like this in a 60? Someone put some thought into building this.
So this is still a manually operated seat as the original 60 rails are integrated into this system. Closer inspection shows the cutting and welding done. Casey, I have some 61 suspension seats and these are completely different. The mechanics on this one uses a single rubber bladder (similar to an air bag suspension kit) manually pumped (lever on left side) up with some type of shock on the right. The frame is a heavy duty scissor style set up. The air line has a leak and have not been able to pump it up. Will post the driver side which has a true suspension seat (non Toyota) that’s been modified to work with the stock seat. As said earlier, someone was very creative and did some good fab work.

Interesting, the work looks factory. Very nicely done though.

I did the usual when service checks and inevitable repairs for getting a neglected 4x4 back into DD status:

-Oil and filter change (had high oil pressure, but the new oil is already cleaning and calming it down)
-Alt and PS belts, no compressor installed so no belt
-Wheels and tires mounted and swapped in
-New Bilstein 5100s all around
-Locking hubs removed and reassembled (properly this time, lock ring was in backwards)
-Cooling system flushed and filled

Brake master has started bypassing, clutch is leaking fluid somewhere, and the brake hoses need replacing. Looks like hyds day in my future.

@wileycoyote and I rescued a '78 40-Series from the impending doom of the scrap yard.

The Neighborhood Association was suing the Estate over it and some other junk in the backyard. She's rough but full of good parts and instead of being melted down and turned into Chinese made hand tools it will be put to use keeping other Cruisers on the road!

Dragged it out of its 20+ year resting place with my 60!

Replaced the old, torn, ugly, (and full of glue from the PO's attempt to put on the cover) dash pad with a (like) new one. Found out a $H!T ton of fasteners were missing for the instrument bezel (of which I ALSO have a new one to replace the current one cracked in 3 places). Gonna see what the local awesome hardware store has before I contemplate $OR.com for OEM fasteners.

Gonna get a new stereo installed while I'm in there.

Also started (and finished) tracking down the blower motor issues. While it's SUPER clean in there...that's probably because the blower hasn't worked in a while. Bench tested and it looks like the motor is fried. While I'm handy enough to repair the motor, to quote Sweet Brown, "Ain't nobody got time for that!".

Finally...I've got to figure out why the headlight switch won't work. I can turn on the lights, and all the interior stuff that is supposed to dim does so, but the headlights nor the interior dash lights come on.

Could not have been easier. Drain oil, place jack w/ block of wood under pan, remove screws (most barely more than hand tight) , lower jack and HELLO under belly. No prying or pounding necessary.
Gasket peeled off. Some bit of metal noted although I HAD installed an aftermarket fuel pump that was a smidge wrongly snapped and it’s arm got torn off so.... are the bits just from it? They appear like s***ty junk metal. Bearing caps must be thinner and a different shade?

A few random shots from this weekend on the Oak Fork of the Clackamas River Oak Grove Fork Clackamas River - Wikipedia

The campsite is about a 90 minute drive from my house in Portland. Something that I noticed was how well the place is taken care of.....no broken glass or litter in the campsite. It also didn't seem to be overrun with toilet paper.

It occurs to me that I've now camped out the last 4 weekends.

One of the pics is through the tent window. Not a bad way to start your day.

I saw this in West Yellowstone and thought it would be cool post, lots of bears out there so a RTT is somewhat a good idear.

If you haven't already replaced the gasket, make sure you get the old gasket material out from way up in the corners. My '82 FJ60 oil pan was leaking from the corners and that was the issue. The PO/shop didn't take their time cleaning.

Look how sparkly clean she is!!! I only gave a slight tug and it came

Look how clean! I only had to tug it free and nothing was stuck. All four corners, easy peasy.

Well I did none of this fun stuff myself, my brother is borrowing my wagon to take his family on an extended roadtrip through the western states and he took it upon himself to work on some cool mods:

#1 dual batteries (used stainlesstrays.com products which worked great)

#2 We noticed the R axle hub was stuck, took it apart and found spring missing and a crack. This hub was working fine before mechanic replaced a wheel bearing on that side >:(

#3 Installed a little pump to turn this water tank into a campground shower to hose off the dirty little children with.

#4 Next task is to install a fold and tumble 3rd row seat so my GF and I can join in the fun from Denver to LA. Whew!

Was busy with the '71 FJ40 in Nevada this weekend, so had to wait until we got back to New Mexico to troubleshoot the '86 FJ60 start-up issues. Well, after a lot of work today, I got it running well for the first time since I started the project more than 2-1/2 years ago. It turns out the ignition timing was off (distributor gear off one tooth). Plus I was able to clear the only CEL code by cleaning the connector to the water temperature sensor and making sure it was plugged in securely. No codes and it seems to be running well, you can't beat that! Off to the DMV by 8:00 in the morning for a VIN inspection, registration, and a red/green chile license plate to match the one on my '84 FJ60. Then I'll hit the steep mountain grades into and out of town to seat the piston rings.

@hawksandherons can you tell us more about your shower system? That looks great! Is it a diy?
