Changed out oil on H55 tranny, transfer case, and rear diff. 212,749 miles using 5 gallon 75-90 Napa gear oil with cap pump. Very easy.

3rd oil change for newish H55, oil very clean
3rd oil change for rebuilt transfer case, oil had lil shine - found the front output shaft has some play with all new Koyo bearings; will tighten stake nut to attempt a fix - doesn’t impact anything unless I use 4wd
1st oil change for rear diff with new 4.11 gears and arb locker. Plenty of shine due to break in.
Will change again in 500 miles along with 3rd change for the front diff with newish 4.11 gears (it was changed 6-8 mos prior to rear)

So haven’t posted on here in a while but here are some recent upgrades. Shackles, SOA(just got the front done, rear in progress) add a leaf, some frame scrubbing and painting etc

@hawksandherons can you tell us more about your shower system? That looks great! Is it a diy?

It is a DIY project my brother threw together based off a Frontrunner floor water tank. It has a carve out to fit over a tranny hump which he was able to fit a small pump into and run hose from the two outlets on the tank. I believe it puts out a 3gpm flow. I haven't had a chance to try it yet but I will try to get the parts list and post it here. There is also a coupler in the cap so you can attach additional water tanks.

It's not what I've done, it's what I am preparing to do.

And in preparation I finally broke down and dropped some coin.....

No pics, but spent the day in 100 degree heat, catching up on maintaince with oil change and replacing rear t case output seal as well as both rear axle seals.

Whew, it's been a busy weekend. I'm gearing up for a big 2K+ mile road trip next week out to my ancestral homelands in Winifred, Montana and my cruiser was needing some love.

Started out with some small stuff like replacing the seals on the front doors and inner front windows, as well as the broken front amber indicator lights. Piece of cake!

Then I decided my steering wasn't good enough so I adjusted my toe-in to 1*. First time doing this and the hardest part was remembering formulas from my highschool trig class. It's definitely driving better now, though the drag link still isn't adjusted to be totally square.

Then my new ARB bumper arrived! Removing the rusty bolts holding on the OE chrome bumper and the bull bar that the PO installed required some seriously medieval treatment from the angle grinder, sawzall, and air chisel. I guess I got carried away because I also removed the outriggers, which was riveted on to the frame. Oh well, it gave me a chance to paint them with a rattlecan and install some stainless steel bolts instead!

If that wasn't enough for one weekend, I decided to go ahead and replace my galley plug. This was pretty intimidating at first because I've never used a thread tapper before, but that turned out to be easier than all the other crap that needed to be tracked down from the hardware store or removed from the engine bay just to start this project.

How is the steering after the adjustment for toe angle?

How is the steering after the adjustment for toe angle?

Straight line stability is much better at high speeds and she stayed true even during the few times I got her up to 80 MPH.

Looks like I still need to make some adjustments to the drag link because my steering wheel is off from center by a small amount. Also, I never noticed how bad my bump steer has gotten...

Could not have been easier. Drain oil, place jack w/ block of wood under pan, remove screws (most barely more than hand tight) , lower jack and HELLO under belly. No prying or pounding necessary.
Gasket peeled off. Some bit of metal noted although I HAD installed an aftermarket fuel pump that was a smidge wrongly snapped and it’s arm got torn off so.... are the bits just from it? They appear like s***ty junk metal. Bearing caps must be thinner and a different shade?

That looks very similar to what I had when I spun a bearing. I would check those bearing caps for knocking if you haven’t already. Even if you haven’t spun one they may be wearing down and you may want to replace them. Better safe than sorry!

bearing caps for knocking
You’ll have to elaborate on bearing caps? Do you mean the lifters or the rods? If so, so far all the rods are good and visually the lifters as well. Have not pulled the camshaft yet...
Dawns on me, I believe you mean the main bearings on the crank. Different bearings from the camshaft bearings. Crank are half circles, cam are full circles.
I had no knocking. Just burning oil smell and very slight drop in oil pressure.

Returned home after being gone a couple of weeks. Mocked up some of the parts that showed up then went kayaking.

Well I did none of this fun stuff myself, my brother is borrowing my wagon to take his family on an extended roadtrip through the western states and he took it upon himself to work on some cool mods:

#1 dual batteries (used stainlesstrays.com products which worked great)

#2 We noticed the R axle hub was stuck, took it apart and found spring missing and a crack. This hub was working fine before mechanic replaced a wheel bearing on that side

#3 Installed a little pump to turn this water tank into a campground shower to hose off the dirty little children with.

#4 Next task is to install a fold and tumble 3rd row seat so my GF and I can join in the fun from Denver to LA. Whew!

Cool set-up. Any more details on your set-up

Drove it! First real drive, other than around the block and to the DMV over the past few days, since 1995 :-). The PO (original owner) is still doing well in his early '80s, so I can't wait to take him for a ride in it next time we're in the Las Vegas area. His daughter is good friends of our neighbors out there, so my neighbor gave him a call on my behalf. Hopefully I'll be able to charge the A/C with R134a tomorrow, then may be able to drive it out there later this summer. On the road to the local ski area, at ~8,000 feet.

It is amazing what you find in pictures.
Like in picture #2 the bolt sitting on the AC bracket. I dropped then when I took off the aircleaner and though it hit the floor. Never did find it and guess what!

This weekend

  • Replaced the fuel pump (thanks Cruiser Outfitters)
  • Checked the heater core for junk (nice and clean)
  • Installed the blower housing and motor (took it out to clean it as the Evap was out)
  • Put the AC Evap back together
  • Installed the AC Evap into the dash (thanks @Aloha Jen for your pic on your build thread) it just poped right in there.
  • Installed a new radio in the dash. It has a muti-color display and i set one to match the OEM dash lights.
  • Installed the Inclinometer
  • Installed the covered dash
  • Fixed a ton of wiring
  • Installed the winch
  • Installed the skid plate
  • Checked and double checked the fuel lines from the tank and fixed.
  • Checked and double checked every hose and line on the 60
  • Installed the air cleaner
  • Checked all belts
  • Readjusted the steering again and remounted the wheels
  • Evacuated the AC and left a vacuum on it for 2 hours (did not move)
  • Started the charge (liquid method) of the AC
  • Checked the dash lights (seems my tach light is out and I will have to fix that)
  • Ordered a new Horn Pin (to be installed this weekend) as my horns sound like sick ducks (straight to battery they rock)
  • Installed the iVault center console
  • I think that was it for this weekend.
  • Tested the wipers after I put new arms on. They work!

You can see the old pump (still worked but hey) and the new one. My nice new Denso AC compressor and yes I used the old spring clamps they are still springy and work.
Lots of dust on the outside of windshield (this is what happens when you clean the bed liner off the hood and have to go almost to bare metal)

Still need to clean little things on the Interior and the headliner as it is not in bad shape overall.

Tonight I am going to try to start it for the first time in a year and a half.

This is how much articulation I get with 3" lift OME suspension, front sway bar attached (stock length) before losing traction. 33" tires, 32 psi, and open diffs. Tires didn't rub. Problem solved by backing up a little and squaring up a bit better. I do want lockers front and rear, but the Sixty does just fine as it is.

Anyone have a green bulb cover that fits an inclometer bulb?

I want that set up too. Did you need extended brake lines? What leaf packs are you running?

I extended my brake lines front and rear, the rear went to the front, and the rear is from a T100 IIRC. There are some details on a thread somewhere here on MUD, should be an easy search.
