What did you do on your 70 series today?

I always loved the inclinometer in some of the earlier Cruisers and Pajero’s also my speedo is out from bigger tyres, so picked up this eBay job.

Surprisingly good quality but I didn’t like the idea of sticking it to the dash, so having the spare DIN I decided to fit it inside. After butchering the housing, it became a point of no return, made the front face from some 3mm acrylic sheet, works pretty well

That looks great! Got a part number or link to that inclinometer setup?

Very cool, what all is on that display?

Installed the swing arms today with the spare. It is a temporary rim until I get the matching one.

Yesterday I got the galley frame from the powder coat shop. RAL7011.

Finally got the injector pump tuned. This thing just rips.

Thanks fellas, it's called the Autool X90, so far works well, sometimes takes a while connect to GPS like 5 mins! but not too fussed thats for highway driving anyway. It's got speed, side angle, decent/acent and compass @Owyhee Jackass @jblueridge @DrRock

upgrade opportunity

I did the @FJBen Bikini Top mod. His instructions and pics made the effort easy for this newbie wrencher …

Builds - 1988 BJ74 “Number 1” - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/1988-bj74-number-1.1087702/post-13153259

I used the following Jeep aftermarket products:

-MasterTop 14700101, Windshield Channel for 76-95 Jeep CJ & Wrangler YJ

-Vertically Driven Products (VDP), KoolBreez Brief Top for 76-91Jeep CJ-7 & Wrangler YJ, Style: Black Mesh

After I stretch the mesh some more, I am going to have a local upholsterer attach some straps to fit the FZJ73 rollbar.

Most doors installed. I'm testing latches with magnets. Hope it works because I'm committed. Drawers panels should be painted tomorrow.

I'm trying to find the connector for the starter. I tried twice VintageTEQ and bought it, never got the part nor a response to email, and ended up disputing the charge.

If anyone knows where aI can get this or a part number, it will be greatly appreciated.

So after more research Commins uses a similar connector part number
68486185AA. I ordered one and check it out.

How many km / miles on it?
Mine is similar age (1985), 335kkm on it.
Also runs overall fine. Friends driving behind me at altitude in the Alps requeted a change of the valve stem seals, though 😆
But I also wonder how mine would look on the bottom end. So, interesting on how your rebuild will work out. Please keep us posted.
Good Luck 🤞 Ralf

Update: I polished the crank, super-cleaned it, reassembled with new bearings and assembly lube, resealed the pan with FIPG, filled it up new oil and new filter, and it fired right up and seems to ge running well, no oil pressure light, and no more clattering noises than usual. 😅 No leaks after a test drive.

Now I’ve seen Pakistani videos of them stick welding that stuff back together and heading off down the road. No need wasting money on new parts.
Just mentioned to a friend & fellow engineer the other day: "As engineers, we rate those jobs crap, but as a bush mechanic, I'd like to know how long such a job would actually last ..."

@Felde the question we will never know the answer to!

Luckily I heard it and was able to do the rest of the trail in 2wd (a few spots were not fun in 2wd but we got it done).

Loaded a 60 series roof on top of the AluCab. Next week driving 750 miles to Flagstaff to put on a 60 body that needs it. Wonder what my mpg will be.

How did it steer with all those bits out of position?

I could steer but very minimal. No grinding but def could not steer even close to full lock. I ended up playing it safe and having it towed home.
This was my first time ever having to tow one of my Land Cruisers home. Bummer. Just glad no land rover owners saw me.
