Is flipping the front springs around all you need to do to get a hair more clearance in the rear of the front fenders? No other changes or adjustments needed?

Never knew this was a possibility

To be clear when they talk of flipping springs they don't actually have anything to do with directly flipping the springs. The center pin for the diff location of the leaf packs is not centered so in factory config it is to the rear on the spring pack center line so the diff is back towards the rear of the fender hole. This is done to ensure it is in a trailing configuration at all times.

Now when the leaf pack compresses the fixed point is to the rear so the diff goes forward and away from the fender But with bigger tires and the taper etc it will hit as it goes up. To fix this you can flip the spring which in effect moves the center pin forward BUT now you get into the argument of Military wraps or you can redrill the leaf pack or you can pull the leaf pack apart and restack it with the lower leafs reversed and the uppers on stock config or you can redrill your axle perch pin position.

End result is the diff moved forward and gives you more clearance BUT you will still want to extend your bump stop about 40mm down or of full compression the tire hits the fender lip before the axles hist the bump.

At the 30mm it moves you on the center pin you should not need to run any form of drive shaft spacer to compensate as you have that much movement in your spline. If in doubt you can add a 25mm space .

Uh... no offense, but have you checked your avatar photo recently. You are speshul too my brother from another mother! 😜

Rufus the stunt bum is all time.

Pretty much exactly a year ago the crankshaft in my 3B exploded, leaving me without a daily. After putting in another 3B back into it and having it blow up 200 miles later, I swore to never put another one into my troopy. Great motor, just not for a troop carrier traveling on US roadways. (or for pushing 15psi of boost thru)

Well I bought a box truck with the Isuzu 4BD1T engine in it at the end of last summer, and figured I would put it in my troopy. After working on it whenever I was home from college with my dad for the past year it starts up, runs, and DRIVES. This is an amazing win, everything has been done by us and friends such as @LuckyDevil and @fflood. Obviously, there is a long road ahead of ironing out everything bit by bit that goes wrong cause it has all been done by 2 guys with relatively no experience doing this big of a swap. Without a doubt could not have got this far without my dad @Shyrock, would have been clueless on many things if I would have been on my own. Below are some photos of the swap and videos of it running and driving today. That is all, just figured I would share on here aswell as my thread as this is quite a big moment for us atleast

The elation of that first start and drive after months or years of it being under the knife is fabulous. Well done!

A year of hard work summarized in just four pictures. If only it would be that easy.
I guess, the entire forum knows the story of the Red Rocket Troopy. It's legend.
Great work. Happy it eventually pays out for you.
Cheers Ralf

Look forward to seeing it in person this Fall. 👍

Took a drive with some buddies to stash some refreshments for a 100-mile mtb ride this Saturday.

Hung out for about an hour up there, beautiful view, but a bit chilly for mid June. My dog would not leave this pipe...there was a marmot holed up inside it.

And now for the Landcruiser.
The blowby of my 1985 3B is really massive, and driving in the hills in 2H was no real fun. Several horses must have left the stable over the years.
The engine has 320 000km on it and apparently has never been opened: Still the composite head gasket on it, no wrenching signs on any bolt.
I'd like to have the engine back to a state I can trust it. So I'm debating myself to go for a rebuild. Budget permitting, as I don't have the ability, tools and space to do it myself.
Yes, I know: I should probably consider an engine swap rather than rebuilding an old 3B. But engine swaps come with legal implications in Germany, and it's the original engine to the vehicle. I honor and value that.
I would be fine with the 3B, if only it would be to be trusted and if I would not be scared to overload it when pressing the pedal to the ground.
Time to open a thread in the diesel section...

After 1000km, the massive blowby on my 3B cured itself.
I nevertheless had it tested for pressure loss today. Result: All good. No significant pressure loss! The engine at 320000km apparently is healthy 😃
Peace of mind now.

The issue might have been an injector occasionally leaking, or a crumble of carbon deposit came loose and obstructed a valve.
Will feed it some goodies and add some nozzle cleaner and do an engine flush with the oil change.
Full story in the respective threat in the diesel section.
Cheers Ralf
