I anxiously await a VDJ76 in my life :D

I was fortunate to spend a few years driving VDJ7x's in amazing places with the Expeditions7 team. While I love all Land Cruisers, a VDJ79 workmate with a cargo box on back is my spirit animal and a VDJ76 would be my daily driver.
And all this time I thought the 1HD-FTE was the engine everyone wanted. 😊

It's an amazing motor too.

We had fantastic luck and experiences with the 1VD-FTV, I tried to sneak one home from the Aussie dealership. :D

Wear cargo pants next time.

Wear cargo pants next time. (Lots of pockets) 😊

:D

While a 1VD converted project would be rad, I'm loving the idea of a stocker to keep around, much like the HZJ77 I have.

I’m at the age where spending time in the slow lane is fine so the 1HZ suits me perfectly. 😁

Weekend before last, I had a fellow pull into traffic in front of me, I was pulling my trailer. I had to lock up the wheels to avoid hitting him. I have not had to brake that hard in this land cruiser yet.

Last weekend when I took the boys out to do that rope training, I noticed shuddering in the rear end when applying the brakes, and thought I might have a sticking caliper. Just before I got to my buddies place, I was losing brake pedal pressure.

I noticed the piston seal was leaking, so I limped it home. Today I investigated. I have no idea how the brake pad fell out, the retaining clips were still in place. So the piston must have been stuck, against the rotor!

Thankfully I have everything I need for a complete overhaul EXCEPT the calipers. But with that damage, I don't want to think about rebuilding them, I have new calipers on order. Toyota OEM:

Since I never found how I am slowly losing brake fluid, I decided to replace the master. I bench bled it and then used my homemade pressure bleeder to flush the lines and hopefully get the air out. I found the LSPV pin is stuck: truck thinks I have a lot of cargo in the back. I'll deal with that later. I used the school's laser to cut gasket that goes between master and booster (from 80's series).
Removed the semi-molded and badly-fitting vinyl I put in a few years ago. New Toyota flooring is less durable but it fits just right. A lot of swear words as I tried to get bolts around shifters through several layers of rubber, vinyl and sheet metal.

Got the 74 out and about, now with functioning OEM a/c to combat the hellacious Texas blowtorch like weather.

Man I just love the look of that rig. I’m an ARB bumper homer but the 70 series looks killer without it. The silver wheels were high on my color radar as well…when I win the lottery I’ll just buy a bunch of cruisers with different rims/colors

Added grommets and installed a new set of rubber-backed bath rugs on the seats.
These are easily cleaned and help my clumsy dog keep his footing as we roll down the highway.
