@RHINO thank you for this information. Diesel performance (or really any "performance") is a new world to me.EGT commonly causes heat related issues like melted pistons, dropped pre cups and valve seats ect
Boost pressures commonly cause cracking bending and breaking issues, like connecting rod failures, head gasket failures, cracked pistons, crankshafts ect.
@Guyute at the risk of belaboring the questions on this 1HZ autopsy, what sort of extended EGT's were you hitting on those overpasses? We live in a valley and any direction we go to explore requires going over a pass or three. Also pull a M416 trailer cram-crap packed full so I'm likely keeping it turbo'd for better or worse. 'Merica!![]()
Tried to never let it go over 1000* F under my ownership. But extended runs right under that over passes. Probe pre turbo. Decent quality Turbosmart gauges for EGT and boost came w/ the rig.
Pretty much identical weather here this morning. Luckily I was parked indoors (coolant temp read 34° when I fired it up) so at least I could get to work in the morning.
475k km on the clock, about 100k on my watch. It has always run smoothly but I had never checked the valves.
Saturday I adjusted the valves and checked the compression. It was a tech day at Valley Hybrids; we did three 1HZs.
I saw ~480psi across the board. Two valves were a bit tight but otherwise we are lookin good. Piece of mind.
I really like the 1HZ and it seems I have a fine example.
Lucky you. I'd go finish the exhaust on the BJ74 but its 26F here and we got 12" of snow last night. But the mighty CanAm 800 plow
Still internally debating re-turbo'n my 1HZ but, this is an example of my idiot abroad thinking. Maybe put 10K miles a year on my 77. @TreadingLight 's NA 75 series has nearly 300K miles and going... so 30 years+ at that rate. I'm closing in on 50 years old personally. I'm not making it to 80 and if I do... is a leaf sprung Cruiser my go to? Nah.This is why I love the 1HZ. Just leave it alone and let it do its job.

So 200K miles/20 years of a turbo'd 1HZ okay for me? My kids should buy their own damn rigs. LoL
That said. My thinking has got me into trouble several times.
Do like driving the turbo'd rig more than the NA rigs I've driven.
WDYD today content: Amayama just cancelled part of last weeks order last minute.
if you look at the parts list, it shows a different head, pistons and gasket, among other changes. less compression would be my guess. There was a 1HZ-T so if there was a right way to turbo a 1HZ, I am sure you could follow however that one was done.

I was wondering if you sold the BJ74 or not. Glad to learn you still have it.Lucky you. I'd go finish the exhaust on the BJ74 but its 26F here and we got 12" of snow last night. But the mighty CanAm 800 plow
machine worked it's magic and it's not a problem any more.
