I'll take a piece of heater hose and use that to further insulate the winch cables.

As mentioned b4, I use hose to protect the cables at possible pinch points.
Not disagreeing with you guys on protecting the cables, very important, but the whole point of larger cable is to keep the heat in the cable low. Most winch cables are rated to 80 or 90 degrees C. Sleeving portions of the cable with heater hose is the exact opposite of what you want to do. Let the cables breathe and they’ll shed more heat.

I don't shield the entirety of the cable, only a short portion that may contact a sharp edge.

Spooled on the synthetic rope this morning. I know I need to spool it all out and wind it on again under load, but this was very satisfying. I am surprised at how fast this winch is. I am looking at options to replace the hook with a "lay flat" option like a flat shackle. Any group wisdom here would be appreciated. I'll still carry a hook, just want to keep the rattle to a minimum.

Factor 55 now owned my Warn has a few nice options including a flat link with a hook.

It’s probably to late but when it’s time to replace my rope, I’m going with no metal setup with a fairlead that has hook to loop the end of the rope on.
With wide use of soft shackles I see no reason to have of metal in the mix.
Going all soft makes for a safer recovery.

When you’re done spooling it in, give it one last little bump with the controller to put some tension on it. Then it can’t rattle.

I have an aluminum thimble with a flat end that I can pull tight against the fairlead.

That's what I had in mind.

this. F55 is bling, i use their Flat Splicer. also look at Bleepin Jeeps winch line, its pretty clever with no metal setup

Their line seems pretty slick. I like the extra features and single end knot. Decent price and good length. I was leaning that way..now I’ll try it for sure.

the other cool thing is , if you already have syn line they offer just a 12' length of the "trick" shyt to splice onto your line

Notice for all, just saw that auto zone is having a deep sale on Warn parts. The 68608 motor for $275. Spline gear for $46. D shaped remote $81. Brake kit $101. Lower end kit $36.

All pretty good prices!

*edit: 20% coupon doesn’t seem to apply to all Warn parts. But it does for some.
little hack on the remote here. search for utv remote to get factory three wire and save some coin

For the standard 3=pin folks, yes. I went with the bundled Warn 102339 contactor setup like this which is the D shape connector. I think this is just the current model 8274-70 contactor setup, but prewired.
