40 that nice, if you don't have cash maybe she needs another husband, looks like a pretty nice building too. Be fair with the old girl and get her what its worth. My guess at least 20k

I never get deals like this...

The unfortunate part is a neighbor friend of hers told her it could be worth 50K I have already showed her a few comparable that sold for under 30 but really they are not comparable. I will keep you all updated as I will be going back out later to pick up some other items. it is safely hidden in the mountains for now.

Her neighbor is wrong in its current state..

Sounds like you are going down the emotions over reality rabbit hole. You can waste a lot of time and effort or you can make a fair offer and make it real with cash, If her neighbor wants to speculate let him match your offer, if not buy the truck for what you feel is a fair offer for you and her. Money talks, bull**** walks. Good Luck

Roll bar was not a option but a requirement to sell FJ40s in the US starting with the 74 model. Believe US was the first market to require them. Some markets never had them.

How about Canada?

You could easily put $20K into another and it may not be that nice after the $20K

thanks I have looked at dozens, and guess speculating that someone wants original vs modified is this really a realistic comparison, reapint different seats modified with a lift bumpers etc. Dont get me wrong all the modifications are things I would want in a driver. I have almost convinced my partner we should go for it for no better reason than getting to play with an unmolested shiny cruiser. I am working on funding it myself right now fingers crossed.

With a few $k the example listed above could be returned to stock as the "mods" arent anything irreversible. $20K TO $30K would be my est. on the value of your find, depending on what it looks like in person.

besides the missing roll bar and longer seats(which I can see changing if you wanted to take another buddy or so hunting. (remember at one time a 40 was a 7 passenger vehicle even in the US) By 77 is was just a 4 seater........that is 3 less drinking buddies ;)

it looks very legit and original, I don't see anything that makes me think its a repaint. the sill looks good from what I can see, so the floor are probably fine

if you can document it really only has 30,000, not 130,000 then its worth a mint, I'd say WELL north of 25K, they are only original once and a low mile stock, solid, rust free 40 is rare as hens teeth. That said, its probably gonna take a few bucks to get it there, its still a 40 year old truck and they need stuff.

spare looks like a Dunlop Snow Cruiser, which would have been stock if so it still has the red line which would tell me its been inside most its life. My 82 came with the original spare on it, the 82 was a 1 owner, totally stock, rust free adult owned original paint 40. Chances of seeing a 40 year old spare on it and the truck its attached to is not original is very slim

10K get you nothing, unless lucky, 20K gets you something decent but chances of bondo and old body work are high, 30K you start to get some nice latter model 40's, most have been repainted still(they rust worst) Or 30K can get you some POS from south of the border with lipstick

lets say a guy bought a 15K 40, some rust issues, some mechanical issues, do a full resto......your looking at 30-40-50K by the time your done......and its not original

if you want it for yourself, than don't BS the old gal tell her what its worth and tell her what YOU can pay, she may cut you a deal(I work with alot of widows) But if you think you gonna flip it or sell it for her, get her(or family) what its worth....karma is a bitch.

But there is nothing wrong with a deal as long as everyone is happy in the end.

I don't consider a restored the same as original. Not one is worth more then the other just different.

How about Canada?

Good question, thought we were in a North America market but Canada got diesels and relief vents on the later 40 series. Canada also got their own version of three point seat belts in the 45 pickup. But probably got the same seat belts if Toyota import the 45 truck to the US. Calling @JohnnyC .

With a vehicle this original you would be money ahead to being back to stock than doing mods then flipping it. I see very little money needed to fix what I see damaged and missing. A lot less money into it than you will spend doing a bunch of mods.

that is not even close to a comp, the subject is far superior, apples to oranges.....

A 100% stock 40 in original paint is like a hens tooth (especially in the NE). Based on the pic, are you guys seeing above $30k, $40? Spot on about a resto costing $30-40k and above.

More pics but be careful Google maps may locate it. Redgrr is absolutely right one photo doesn't make a complete picture. But it does have a limited value as it sits and that is what someone is willing to lay out the money right now. there have been a few original barn finds on mud and they were pretty good and below 20k.. even in 40 land 20k is still a lot of coin.

To answer the

"How about Canada" question... afaik the North American market covered both till 75'

75-on Canada had separate specific designated trucks .... but... was still just considered NA market trucks

And I am almost 100% sure all cruisers that went to Canada 75+ came with roll bar ... unlike many other markets

this same time Jeeps went from dealer option roll bars to factory standard in 75' ... and that also was in USA and Canada

Me too more pics please:)

If there rusty parts trucks or gems like this, there all beautiful too me:)
I get exited every time I see a 40 period...
