It's ironic, you can get any part for a newer vehicle. However, if you drive a new vehicle, why would you need parts?

Traffic accidents. Insurance companies will usually pay to fix new vehicles; older ones are totaled more frequently.

Once upon a time, I worked in a Ford dealership body shop, and it opened my eyes to the manufacture, shipping, warehousing and sale of factory (especially body) parts. Not to mention the insurance business.

I need hardtop sides that don't require a $1000.000 worth of labor to save

Look at this on eBay
NOS TOYOTA LANDCRUISER FJ40 FJ45 GENUINE PANEL ASSY, LH REAR UPPER SIDE, 61520

If I had more time I would learn to weld the hard top sides look like a project that if one took time with would be a nice project to take on early when learning the skill.

A couple of guys on here have been bringing in cruisers from the area of the world for a while. May be worth seeing if they could pick up and throw in a container they have coming over. They may be happy to find a source. Or it could be a business opportunity for them to bring over a dozen sides and resale. There was/is a guy near my part of the country that was brining in pretty 4x series to resale.

The bad part about those is that there NO WAY to know if they are OEM unless you are in DBX. I don't care what the advertisement says.

Very true and something everyone like myself need to be reminded when buying cruiser parts.

I've bought parts from online shops in the states claiming to be oem and find out later I bought a cheaper knock off aftermarket low quality item. Buying the same part multiple times is very disheartening.

GOOD LORD!
$3000.00 for a set plus the shipping, import fees, taxes......well. I guess the body man gets paid

am I just having a bad day or is the the passenger rear taillight assembly for a 79+ fj40 dead?

if so.....is there a substitute?

Yup. Goner. 81550-60192: DISCONTINUED.

81550-60191 is still available and that's up through 12/1978. I have a feeling though that the electrical connector is different. Haven't seen the two side-by-side in ages.

4 pin vs 5 pin, the difference is the integrated ground. Easy to retrofit as needed. Plug housings are available.

The aftermarket variant for example:

5 PIN - Our awkward part# TL60192 (Japan aftermarket variant of the 81550-60192)

Yup, they have been great. Sadly they too have been discontinued recently so we are limited to the stock on hand. We did purchase everything they had left which was ~300 tail light assemblies at the time.

On the plugs, I think Coolerman was selling them?

Yup, he has em:
Cruiser Wiring

It's technically a 6 pin housing but it only uses 5 pins. I might need to buy some of those from him to build OE late models.

81550-60232 available in the ME for late model trucks.

Might also be possible to flip over the driver and swap pins I'm the plug and perhaps lenses. Haven't looked into that at all.
