I heard he broke both diffs and an axle...that is rough s***.

Yup. The rear axle broke, placing him in 3 wheel drive. At some point the rear diff went, and you can hear the front diff going as he rolls backwards to a stop. We backed the truck up in 1 wheel drive and left it off to the side just below the ledge. We ran the rest of the trail and then a few went back to recover the vehicle and we trailered it back to camp. In camp we pulled the front axle and drive shaft, put a spare diff in the back, replaced the rear broken axle side, and put a different rear drive shaft on to fit the replacement diff so he could get home.

A rear locker would have prevented a lot, but looking at it there wasn't too much skinny pedal IMO.

Wear and tear causing premature failure?

I made it up there in my 62 with a l/s rear and 33 a/t's. Then I had to turn around and help Greanseaman with a broken tie rod.:bang::wrench::wrench:
The Jeep just walks right up.:bounce::steer::bounce2:

It's definitely doable open, just didn't happen that time. I was happy pulling the axles were oh so easy.

Where does it normally sheer?

Seems as if I'm never going to be done working on Rovers. Look what landed on my desk today.

EAS valve block. It's just like an ARB valve block but on steroids. It's made out of solid stainless. Must weigh 10lbs.

This is the 3rd one for this vehicle.
