We’re officially putting Humpty Dumpty back together again.

Kids wire wheeled about everything. We’ve been coating with rust converter, primer and topcoat. It’s coming out great for the efforts we’ve put in.

Forgot my masking gear, cardboard for the win… or at least minimal over spray. Haha

Got a couple good coats of enamel after some primer. Coming along.

Sprayed out a bunch of break parts and other random pieces that need paint.

Our whole under carriage is coated in a heavy tar like undercoating. It has done well to keep the rust at bay but would be a nightmare to remove so we attacked it with some putty knives and broke up any loose stuff, then ran the wire wheel cups on a grinder and knocked out any old paint/surface rust and now we are in business.

We bought some 3M undercoating and it does a good job. I’ve used it on my 40 for years and it does a great job.

Axles are next.

Looks good Drew!
Brake vs break.
Sorry to be the armchair prick, we can't have your class going out into the world and spelling it wrong.
Thx ;)

We’ve got the big stuff all knocked out. The boys have been working hard. We have a few little projects to knock out and then we are into full reassembly.

It’s amazing BOTH how much we can get done in a class and how little we can get done in the same time frame.

Painting is done for the most part.

We decided to take advantage of nice day and look over the parts right that we got got back in January.

We tossed some jumpers on the battery, cleaned up the terminals and posts, looked for oil, checked the coolant (none visible) and poured some fresh gas into the carb and let it sit… it leaked pretty good from somewhere underneath but not enough to slow us down.

There was no pressure in the clutch so we popped it out of gear, turned the key and…

VROOM! She fired right up within a second. I was almost startled how quick it came to life. I had planned on spending a whole class period messing with it and the mighty 1F came to life inside of 10 minutes tops. She Idled well, we didn’t run it long without coolant, but she’s alive, no knock, smooth idle, really ran pretty good. Vacuum seemed strong with the old had over the carb test, really impressive.

We took a video but I don’t know how to upload it. Here’s a pic for the peanut gallery.

Now to rebuilding what we’ve pulled apart!

Im kind of surprised there is not a single female in the class.
We need more women wrenching and keeping the spirit alive.
Good job keeping the future generation interested in vehicles that will outlast a tesla by far.

We have a few sign up each year, then get cold feet and bail at the last moment. I had 4 signed up last year and all but one bailed. Then the last trooper decided she didn't want to be the only gal among all the dudes. I get it.
