Not optimal, but there are companies that make very nice lexan windshields to your specs… if it turns out your frame is too tweaked for glass.

May have to run lots of RainX and try to use the wipers as little as possible though.
^^meant Lexan! Need coffee!!!

Find the shop that does installs for the UPS or FEDEX vans in your town. UPS contracts with the guy that did my HZJ77 windshield install a few years back.
There is a good idea.

Getting rid of the Gasket is not the answer🤪

Well the winshield is big enough to glue it without any mod to the actual frame. That is what I did, broke one and paid 600$ for a new one. Was not interested to try the gasket again. In Australia, they seem to have a bigger windshield because newer model are glued.
I Drove in pretty hard offroad and I did not break the glass (structural distorsion). However I first used an universal kind of rubber to fill the gap and water got trap under.. I since removed it, cleaned (again) and filled with urethane. At least I can say no more water getting inside from the windshield.
When you are on a budget but still want to keep a vintage LC, sometime you have to be creative...

Mind posting a photo or two of the results?

Hello,

Toyota started gluing the windshield of 70 Series trucks around 2010. They added a reinforcement plate on the upper pillars as well.

It would be worth checking the parts catalog for details.

Truth be told, as cool as the Dyna is, I have really been missing my little red $200 beater pickup. I had to get the Dyna back to my dad so my girlfriend and I made a trip out of it.

@Roastchestnuts bought some wheels and tires off of my dad so I went ahead and carried them down the road with me.

Showed up to his house and immediately threw them on. Then obviously had to take a test drive in the 55 he bought off of my dad. It was sitting for a couple of years waiting for some love, and Robert has definitely given it the love it was begging for. So good to see it back on the road (and sand).

@svsisu also gave us a place to crash at his place. Much appreciated after a bad night of sleep from getting sandblasted by wind in a tent. Woke up the next morning and we hit the beach for a little bit. Showed us a cool new shipwrecked sailboat out there.

It's always so great to meet with Land Cruiser friends. It's really quite beautiful as these hunks of metal bring all of us together, yet in person, that's really only 10% of what ends up getting talked about.

---------------------------------------------------

Alright! Now for the bad news. I ordered an OEM windshield from Toyota USA for the troopy.

Triple checked the part number to make sure it matched with other 70 series fixed frame windshields, yep. Checks out. Snagged it from the dealer, made it back to Boone, held it up to my windshield, andddd....

No returns. So uhhhh yea, I was pretty pissed about it for like 3 minutes and then just started laughing. It's not worth staying mad about or letting it change my overall mindset. I'm done with the troopy for now, it's such a stupid thing to stop me in my tracks, but I just don't even wanna look at it. I don't have any more money at the moment to seemingly waste on something that's going to forever bend me over and **** me. I'll probably come back to it in a month when I have recouped some funds to waste on it again. End of the month is coming up, I need to pay rent/bills, get that Plymouth Volare in order to be sold, and tidy up lots of other odds and ends I got going on.

I'll update the thread soon with some fall pics I've snagged and some mechanical updates about anything and everything but the Red Rocket.

That wreck is a mystery. Last November was the first time I had seen it uncovered, and no one I talked to knows what it is. A casual search of the interweb doesn't give away much either- the only real reference I found were people calling it Isabel, but only because it was uncovered in 2003 by Hurricane Isabel, which really hammered the island. As we discussed, I really don't think it is part of the G.A. Kohler, which is nearby. Mysteries of the sand and sea, but looks good with the Dyna!

It was great having you guys stop in, and I look forward to when we can talk story again.

Don't sweat the troopy, you'll get there.

@joekatana any wisdom/resource as the 70 series young OG? Windshield woes!

Dam Dude that sucks about the windshield

I’m sure someone on the forum would buy the windshield from you so there’s that. What’s the discrepancy with the part#? Is it for a model with a fold down windshield frame?

From what I can tell, 56111-60220 is for 70/71, 76, 75/78/79 Series fixed frame windshields, whereas 56111-60230 is for 70/71, 73/74, and 75 Series folding windshield models. Unfortunately, that means the correct windshield is the more expensive option, but it also means there should be a pretty good chance of selling the folding frame glass here in the US.
