one more thing, the US has 2.3 million prisoners, Our epidemic of incarceration costs us taxpayers ~$72 billion a year. Do we really need to house 2.3 million prisoners?

I had read that 56% of prisoners are mentally ill, so the prison system is the new (PC) sanitarium

Private equity firm Cerberus has put U.S. firearms maker Freedom Group up for sale following Friday's killing of 20 children and 6 adults at the Sandy Hook school shooting in Connecticut.

Freedom Group includes Bushmaster, maker of the rifle used in the shooting at the schoolin Newtown. Cerberus bought Bushmaster in 2006 before adding another 10 makers of firearms, ammunition and accessories to the group.

"It is apparent that the Sandy Hook tragedy was a watershed event that has raised the national debate on gun control to an unprecedented level," Cerberus Capital Management said in a statement.
Cerberus will hire advisers to carry out a sale of the company, and return the money to its investors, which include the California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS).

The investment firm said it was not seeking to influence the debate on gun control but had decided to sell Freedom Group to protect the interests of its clients, which also include the pension plans of other municipal workers, endowments, institutions and individuals.
CalSTRS, which manages the pensions of California public schoolteachers, said Tuesday that its internal policies require it to consider the "social, human and environmental impacts" of where it invests its money.
"Moving forward CalSTRS will work to ensure that all of our investments are taking these very important criteria into consideration," CalSTRS said in a statement.
Cerberus is not the only private equity firm with significant holdings in the U.S. gun industry. Longpoint Capital tripled its investment in Savage Sports, which makes rifles and shotguns, when it sold the firm in January in a management buyout backed by Norwest Equity Partners. Sciens Capital Management owns a stake in Colt Defense, the small arms maker.
Gun accessory maker Bushnell is owned by Midocean Partners, and distributors Jerry's and Ellett Brothers are owned by Wellspring Capital.

Shares in publicly traded gun makers Smith & Wesson (SWHC) and Sturm, Ruger (RGR), as well as hunting retailer Cabela's (CAB) fell Monday on signs that politicians may introduce new gun controls.
President Barack Obama has indicated that he will try to bring back restrictions on military-style rifles. In the second presidential debate in the fall, Obama said he was going to see "if we can get an assault weapons ban reintroduced."
Speaking at a vigil for the victims and families Sunday night, he said he would use "whatever power this office holds ... in an effort aimed at preventing more tragedies like this."

My Father believes he bought the last available AR-15 in the Denver CO metropolitan area this afternoon. The normally 10 minute background check was up to 21 hours. I'm not sure about it actually being the last one but he did mention there being 7 on the wall when he walked in and his name going on the last one. He didn't even look at it and just said "put my name on that one". It is his second AR. I rolled up to US Tactical in Statesville today and picked up a stripped lower reciever. Going to try and finish the build in the Spring but I figured this would be the most difficult component to get in the coming months. It was the last one in the counter and the place was packed. In response to Dick's management decision to pull "assualt rifles" I have decided to pull my support of Dick's and will no longer be a patron of Dick's. :-) (All for you Adam). I already avoid Wal-Mart like the monkey from Outbreak. I am significatnly disapointed in Cheaperthandirt. You would think their internal policy would be clear on gun sales, since that is the business they are in. It is like a car company who stops producing cars when they find out there are car accidents...refer to my earlier posts about my feelings on all of this. Because my fiance is a kindergarden teacher I have been unable to watch any of the news or even check facebook almost without her breaking down and crying, so unfortunately, I am not that informed on the developing situation with the actual act of vileness that occured.

I have to support Walt-Mart. The are a huge customer of mine for my lawn care business and they pay before 30days.
The hell with Dicks!:hillbilly: (Sounds weird) I bought all there 223 ammo on Sunday and stared at the gorgeous check out girl for my last time!:D Screw Dicks, Cheaper then Dirt, Bushmaster (the holding company is selling out by the way) and I like Wal-Mart

Yup ... they're doing this because CalPERS (Kalifornia Public Employees Retirement System) is pulling their $500 million investment from Cerberus because of their ownership of Freedom Group.

I predict the stuff is going to hit the fan pretty hard throughout the firearms / ammo supply chain in the next 6 months.

I am hearing a lot of irresponsible statements being made and have real concerns for the implications to many of our Constitutionally guaranteed rights ...

Oh i care. But i am not going to get into anything online about it. You know how i feel/ what i am doing right now. Went and looked at another toy when i dropped off my chainsaw.

I'll weigh in....F**K Walmart!!!

Glad you get paid so promptly but let us know when they squeeze you to lower your rates or threaten to hire a cheaper company! They are a POS company and have too much clout, along with flooding America with the crappiest made products that they can import! Whatever happened to their "Buy American" campaign? Boycott Walmart; support local businesses!!

Hijack over.....Baa :flipoff2:

Sam Walton stated that he wanted to put every small business in the country out of business.

well Kenny you went there.... Food Lion sucks crappy quality, Harris Teeter has great product but it's on the higher end. I go there for meats and fresh vegetables. I guess thats what I get living "rural nc"
I agree wal-mart isn't the greatest business out there but its cheap and they have what I need.

Ironically, our FL has better produce than our HT. By far. Thought this was about guns lol.

If the above quote is true, then I hope he and each of his BOD will rot in hell.

Side note...
Walton's son, John, was a Green Beret with MACV/SOG in Vietnam. I had read a few accounts in the past that he was killed there in 1968 but now it's obvious, using google, that he survived. It seems he had nothing to do with the WM empire. I can't recall titles but when I was reading lots of books about GB/SF in Vietnam he was mentioned a good bit whenever the subject was the Ashau Valley. I'm not a movie guy but I think that place was a big part of "We Were Soldiers Once...And Young" (yes, I know it was also a book first). It was a terrible place to be due to the US govt regulations that allowed enemy infiltration at the highest levels. Really good reading and a great lesson on how to lose a war if you have the time to research and read.

It is true. He said it to my uncle in the 80s in a meeting. My uncle was an executive at Miliken, an American textile manufacturer. Needless to say, he wasn't a huge fan of ole Sam.

As others have said, I'm really proud to be a part of this group that we can discuss such a hot-button topic without losing respect for one another. Of course, it seems that most of us are on the same side of the argument, so that helps.

My opinion on the AR debate.....I don't know why really, because there aren't that many chances to shoot one around here for me, but I want one, and I feel like if I pass a background check, I should be able to buy one. Do I think anyone really "needs" a rifle capable of shooting 30+ rounds without reloading, maybe not, but "need" shouldn't have anything to do with whether or not something should be legal, IMO.

I have a co-worker who has a 16 year-old son that has issues with violence. His story sounds exactly like the mother's from the "I am Adam Lanza's Mother" article. In fact, after reading the article, his son was the first thing I thought of. So, I half-seriously mentioned to another co-worker that I am good friends with that maybe I should start making use of my concealed-carry permit. Her response was to say that maybe I should, but asked "You don't own one of those 'Glocks', do you?" I had to explain to her that a Glock is just a brand of pistol, and that even though Lanza did supposedly have a Glock on him, it was the AR-15 that was his primary weapon in his evil rampage and that a gun is simply a tool, nothing more.

who is to say he wouldn't have taken the car adrove through the masses of children waiting to get on the bus if he had not had a firearm, killing even more children. This knee jerk and after-the-play commentary that the media does just to sensationalizes is mainly about increasing viewer counts. they make stuff up and spread misinformation to the uneducated masses. if we don't need firarms, then we don't need luxury cars, sports cars, private jet planes, fancy restraunts, 5 star hotels, or room service. Just because you don't understand how an individual with a mental issue can do such a Heinous act dosen't give you the right to ban a tool. Just because one idiot tried to get on a plane with a so called shoe bomb, everyone has to stand barefooted to get on a plane. If this keep up we will all be naked and living in the medows.
