Dome Plateau over looking Arches NP and La Sal Mountains.
The story: This white 96 TLC is NOT my trail rig. It’s a bone stock, unlocked with 380k miles that I picked up cheap with light front damage (hence the missing plastic front corners) 3 months ago for my 16 year old to drive.
A week ago the head gasket went on my Trail TLC (locked, lifted, armored, etc.). No surprise, it was the original with 253k mile, I just wish it could’ve held out for another couple months!
Here’s the point, I took a new to me, stock, unlocked, 22 years old TLC with 380k miles, threw a set of 33” tires , pulled the rear mud flaps and wheeled it on the ORIGINAL suspension and wheeled it with 29 Jeeps, virtually all lifted, all but 3-4 newer than my TLC. 2 of the Jeeps (JKs) fell out due to mechanical problems, several more were on the verge of over heating on a 70 degree day (hence hoods up at stop), another high centered on something I crossed (the longest, probably the lowest, and by far the heaviest vehicle in the group).
I got stuck behind two 4-door Rubicon with 35”s and AEV lifts (supposedly on of the best engineered lifts for JKs). They were horrible bump wimps!!! I couldn’t believe how timid they were. This at 5 mph, they had more tire and way more clearance. I assumed their high priced parts could at least keep up with a 22 year old and 380k mile STOCK 80 suspension
Stock 80s seem exceptionally talented at gobbling up rough roads, I can’t wait to get a Slinky under my 80!
