If you are interested, I will give you all the details."

That is a clean Piggy!

I know,

Im afraid to ask!

Here is the reply I got. BTW she posted the same s*** here on MUD.

Thank you for your response to my ad. Due to the overwhelming response, I have decided to write a reply to send to everyone that I hope will answer your questions!

The original owner of the truck was Ron Jon, of Ron Jon’s Surf shop. He used the truck as his surf truck for twenty years from 75-95’. He sold it to an auto body mechanic in Evergreen who bought it for his son. The son did not want it, so he sold it to the owner of Sky Country antiques in Evergreen. I bought it from him in Oct of 2006. The body is in near perfect condition. I started to notice a couple of rust spots in the past couple months - One on the hood and one on the passenger door jam. The interior is in perfect condition. There is a crack on the windshield that did not show up in the photos. The radio stopped working, but I think it is a loose wire and the A/C does not work.

In Feb of 2007, I had to have the engine rebuilt. I threw a rod. I bought the truck as my winter truck so it was not driven regularly until I lost my job in September of 2007 and used it as my primary transportation since October.

In October, I had the oil changed. They added 7 quarts of oil. And about a month ago, I threw a rod again. According to Havana Machine, who built the engine and where it is now, one connecting rod has to be crank ground, and the engine has to be reconditioned and cleaned. The odometer does not work, so I am not sure of the mileage on the new engine. The original engine had 118,900.

If you are interested, I can provide the phone number and address of Havana Machine so you may have your questions answered.

I just got a job where I will be doing a lot of driving and need something fuel efficient and reliable.

I am a single mom who fell in love with this truck, but is not a mechanic. I originally paid $11,500 and the engine cost about $7,000 to rebuild.

Please make an offer based on the information I have provided.

Lastly, I have been trying to sell it since I lost my job last year. I got a fraudulent cashier’s check, which resulted in my bank kicking me out. As a result, I will only accept cash.

Please contact me at 720-891-3323 if you need further information. Again, I am not mechanically savvy, so I may not know but I will try to find out for you.

Thanks,

Irene

- a non-running "rebuilt" engine that keeps throwing rods
- rust issues
- and way too much of a sob story

she can keep it. only a moron would pay that much for that. Seems like a waste. She thinks she has a "historical piece". But the problem is damn near no one here in CO give a rats ass!!!

If (IF it's a legitimate sale then simply offer accordingly. Think we have all learned that by now. i.e. "this is what it's worth to me or well, bye bye. But it has that sound of a Nigerian deal from the Royal Family. ;)

that lady is high as s***, perfect example of someone thinking their junk is worth more than it is......

ok, calling it junk is a little harsh :grinpimp:

But I totally agree it is extremely overpriced...

Huge misunderstanding!!!

Someone was kind enough to send me the link to read your responses to my posting.

I think there is a huge misunderstanding. No way am I asking $18K for the truck.

I did not put a price because I am entertaining all and any offer on its current condition.

When it was running, I was given that price range, but the estimate for the work that needs to be done on it is about $6,000.

What do you think would be fair to ask for it?

Thanks!
Irene

:hhmm:body with rust issues shiny paint and a non running engine:eek:................no one cares if ron-john was an owner; probably not good as it was used as a "surf truck" so I imagine it has been around a lot of salt........forget the shiny new paint, that is a big strike against it IMO; many of us have been bitten in the past by shiny paint covering a lot of bondo, fiberglass and rust cancer to the point the vehicle is a total loss; would prefer one with original faded paint; about 1500-1700$ max and after going through it personally; my 0.02

Irene can you post or link us to some more pics of the engine compartment and interior? Or just e-mail them to me and I will post them up for you? As many as you can.

Thats an easy one to get past if you have a Fridge magnet.

If the body is really as clean as it looks, and it just needs a new engine,

I'd pay 3-4 K for it. and swap in a 2F from a 60. but I don't have the $ or any more time for another project right now.

I'm not interested in the truck but I will say that $11,500 in Oct. 2006 was a tad more than just a bit on the high side.

My '55 was free! Mind you it did not have shiny paint nor did the engine run, the transfer was falling apart and there were rust holes you could send a small child through. https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj55-iron-...972-september-potm-cruiser-guy-guatemala.html

IF it is truly rust free, that is a huge plus for a '55 but since it has been in the vicinity of salt water I'd personally be a little doubtful on the lack of rust.

Non-running but mint body '55 in need of an engine ONLY, perhaps 2-3G MAXIMUM.

My advice to the seller would be to find a 2F takeout and drop it in. The value would probably increase more than the cost of the engine assuming the install labour is seller provided rather than contracted out.

If this truck spent from '75 to '95 in Cocoa Beach, FL (location of the original Ron Jon's) then there is NO WAY it is close to rust free. I lived just north of there for most of my life and have had several classic cars/trucks and that environment is not kind to them. Even if it was garage kept the salt still finds it's way in. Think of it as a constant salt solution in the air that can find it's way to all parts of the vehicle.
Not sure how the truck made it's way out to CO but if the history shows it was registered in FL I'd say stay away. It will be rusting from the inside out and held together by the paint alone. I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade. I just know that area very well and what the salt air environment can do to classic rides - especial a vehicle so prone to rust problems like a Pig. I have a buddy who lives in New Symrna right now and his very nice FJ62 is suffering a similar fate.

If it's only been in CO then all bets are off. I'm just going by the statement that it was his "Surf Truck" and trying to let potential buyer beware.
